Songwriter/Producer/singer Mychal Simonz a.k.a. “88” was half of the record production duo “The 88/X Unit”. Together they helped pioneer gangsta rap as they wrote and produced for major rap recording artists’ such as Ice Cube, Mack 10, Da Lench Mob and many other R&B artists’ including working with the legendary “Prince” on his Emancipation triple CD. “The 88/X Unit” continued to produce gold and platinum records through most of the 90’s, and after being hailed “The Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis of Hip-Hop” in “Rap Pages” publication, Mychal gave his life back to Christ and gave up gangster rap to record gospel music and pursue opportunities to score Christian films. His film credits include B.A.P.S., Set if off and The Core to name a few.After regaining a passion for gospel music, he is currently working on his premier solo CD entitled “In Your Presence” where he features a plethora of musical styles through an array of colors that showcase his wide range of influences from old school recording artists i.e. Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Donny Hathaway.Quote: “Hey man, I just love doing real music.” Mychal says, “I love artist like Kirk Franklin and Fred Hammond, They are really tight. Although country icon George Jones had made gospel albums before this 2003 recording, both solo and with duet partner Tammy Wynette, this one bears a special significance. The two-disc set of spirituals marks the first time he'd tackled such material since an almost-fatal 1999 car accident. The mishap is said to have put him on spiritual notice, so to speak, and inspired this album (though he'd done some secular work in between). The arrangements, quite appropriately, steer clear of the customary gospel trappings and are squarely in the Billy Sherrill/classic Nashvile mold that suits Jones so well. The man's voice remains a marvel of tone and emotion, and hearing him lay into the likes of "Just a Closer Walk With Thee," "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms," and even the ubiquitous "Amazing Grace" is nothing short of heart-stopping. No other country singer can emotionally inhabit a song as fully as Jones, and hearing a lifelong hell-raiser try to mend his ways is doubly affecting.

Do you recognize your life as real or similar to a Dream?Nineyears starts from a Dream, a project more than a band, a project that has got something to do with the so-called "art", i mean music, visual art, photography, video, poetry. Something, when you wake up in the morning, that makes you feel it's a good day. You might call it Life. This project took shape in the 14th of february 03, nine years after a tragic event that happened in my life. That fine day i wrote some of the tracks that now are in NineYears's first Album, "Duality". The whole process of writing came so easily, cos I needed to step out of sorrow and pain. I realised that i was using that energy in a positive way, to create. I believe in energy and numbers, nothing to do with superstition though! So, surprised by the outcome, I played the tracks to a friend of mine, Johnny, and we decided to work on that material, following the emotional flow generated by that powerful and deep music.
