Dave Mason first gained fame as a founding member of Traffic, but went on to a successful solo career in the 1970s with such hits as as "We Just Disagree." In 2008 the veteran singer and songwriter was still going strong with 26 LETTERS, 12 NOTES, his first album of new material in over 20 years (though he'd kept up an active performance schedule). It's full of earthy, good-time rock & roll, overflowing with tasty, bluesy guitar licks, soulful vocals, and touches of everything from funk to zydeco.

I didn't expect much, as so many of my heroes are becoming elder statesmen of Rock and Blues. Dave Mason STILL has it. Great guitars, singing and songs. Well worth the investment for something new and very enjoyable.

Homerun for Mason
This is one powerful album from veteran rocker Dave Mason. A deeper, more mature (yes older) voice brings an edgier tone to Dave’s music than on his previous albums. All of the tunes deliver a great range of musical maturity and mastery.
Having seen Dave perform live in Saugatuck, MI, earlier this year provided me an opportunity to hear some of these new songs in their full force live presence – an experience that kept the “goose bumps” alive all evening. Hearing these new songs on 26 Letters, 12 Notes brings back those live concert rushes when you know you’re seeing a master at work, someone who’s earned his rock-n-roll strips and continues to deliver fresh new music that will surely withstand the test of time as so many of Dave’s earlier works have done.
