My Love: Essential Collection songs Detroit has produced more than its share of great music: from jazz stars like Hank, Thad & Elvin Jones; to the Motown stable of vocal artists, and legendary rhythm players Benny Benjamin and James Jamerson. Put it all together with a touch of pop, and a lot of soul, and you've got Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band. It's easy to divine Seger's influence on the music of Bruce Springsteen, and draw parallels with the vocal style of Van Morrison. The epic themes of Seger's characters on "Night Moves" certainly parallel those of the folk heroes who populate Springsteen songs (though he began developing his menagerie a good decade before the Boss). The chant-like, testifying cadences of Seger's blowtorch voice, and his predilection for gospelish motifs, puts one in mind of the mighty Celt's visionary flights. And as the fine GREATEST HITS makes clear, Bob Seger's influence on contemporary roots music is enormous. A song such as "Like A Rock" practically defines a roots approach to power pop, while "Old Time Rock & Roll" finds Seger in an upbeat, Little Richard mode. My Love: Essential Collection buy CD music THE BEST OF THE MOODY BLUES contains vintage photographs and a conversation with Justin Hayward. Recorded between 1964 and 1988. Includes liner notes by John Reed. By keeping it simple and sticking to the hits, this collection successfully relates the story of this pioneering band. The Moody Blues began as a Gerry & the Pacemakers-like, R&B-influenced band fronted by sad-voiced singer Denny Laine, who is heard here on "Go Now." Laine was replaced by Justin Hayward, keyboardist Mike Pinder brought in a Mellotron, and the band hooked up with the London Symphony Orchestra to make the first orchestral-rock album DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED, from which "Tuesday Afternoon" and "Nights in White Satin" are included on this album. Over the next few years the band banged out several gem albums that were full of a distinctive mix of folk-tinged ballads and ambitious prog-rock. Cuts from this period take up a healthy piece of this collection. After a lengthy sabbatical, the Moodies made a comeback in 1981, and with an updated sound (more synth, less Mellotron) the hits began anew. The last section of this album features the songs that brought the Moody Blues back to life. Although Lionel Richie was AWOL for most of the '90s, he's still a pop culture force to be reckoned with, and THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION ably supports this assertion. My Love: Essential Collection album for sale Though things were a bit looser in post-punk and New Wave circles, mainstream rock in the late-1970s/early-'80s was largely a man's game, with females chauvinistically shunted off to ancillary status. Pat Benatar played a major role in changing the AOR gender dynamic. Ruling the radio for a number of years, her belting vocal style and hard-rocking hits defined an era for many, as exemplified on GREATEST HITS. With their charging guitars and fiery vocals, the likes of "Heartbreaker" and "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" bear the influence of Led Zeppelin and AC/DC streamlined for the New Wave era, shot through with concision and a pronounced pop sensibility. Benatar's approach expanded as the '80s rolled on; "Shadows of the Night," penned by cult power-popper D.L. Byron, is an elegant power-ballad tour de force. Later tracks such as "Love is a Battlefield" and "Le Bel Age" incorporate synthesizer and slicker production, taking a decidedly poppier stance.
