| | Brewer's Row Jaw For The Job The Heart For The Sin CD Brewer's Row Discography of CDs
Brewer\'s Row takes their name from an attic practice space just steps from a neighboring Pittsburgh brewery. Formed in the summer of 2005, the group sought to showcase a collection of Nicholas Hohman\'s music and to build and grow their original works. With the release of their first full-length album, \"The Jaw for the Job, The Heart for the Sin...\", the Steel Town natives\' roots are recognizable in a repertoire of bittersweet melodies bound by layered choruses. Taking influence from the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Patty Griffin, the resulting sound has been described as \"Rustbelt Americana\". Singer/songwriter, Nicholas Hohman shares the spotlight with sister Leah for a stirring mix of raw and sultry vocals, occasionally trading lines as in the emotionally captivating \"duet\", Stone Wall. Lending harmonies to the sibs\' soulful verses and leading on guitar, their father, Mark, brings tenured skill to the group with twice the years of rock and roll including a stint with sixties rock band, Shredded Wheat. Add to the mix Cousin Jarrett Sallows on drums and Travis Houck on bass and Brewer\'s Row proves fully-equipped to deliver some serious sound. What makes the group a standout, is their uniquely narrative driven lyrics - songs with specific storylines and all-inspiring meaning. Most are snapshots of dark moments in very real characters\' lives – characters that have admirable qualities and ugly qualities, but are interesting and endearing in the end. \"Three Letters\" is a story about the death of a soldier, told by his best friend. \"Send Me Away\" is about a child orphaned because of his mother\'s inability to support him. \"Benny\" is a story told from the viewpoint of a young man driven to crime and probably fighting his last fight. The beauty of the style of music is that even with elements of hopelessness, every song feels good to listen to, reviving, and you\'ll come away singing every word. The style of the group is somewhat eclectic given the different personalities and the contrasting musical eras and genres of inspiration for each member. Ages of Brewer\'s Row members range almost 40 years, so the influences have been vastly different. Do you lean towards The Blues? Try \"In the Ether\". Got a little country in you? \"Lucky Day\". Feeling epic, play \"Three Letters\". A Rock n\' Roller? Try \"Benny\", \"Stone Wall\", \"Cinderella\".
