| And Winter Came, Most Elegantly Enya's music genre was always hard to define. Ripe with celtic harmony, polished lyering and composed with great care, her songs have various elements, speaking chiefly of deep and abstract content, rather than plain love or modern day fads. While 'Trains and Winter Rains' is a re-visited domain, with her well known sound and composition, her Christmas singles are redone, rather than blandly re-sung. These versions capture the season's spirit as well as any other renderings out there. Her range varies with the catchy 'My my Time Flies', where she pays homage to history, summarizing key points, with a homage to the Beatles. It also consists of guitar, of all things. A change indeed, for someone dedicated to her craft as Enya. That doesn't mean that she strayed from 'good music' she's known for, its only a sudden change, and one that anyone, old or young, will like. It is like a revisitation to the days of classic rock, well done too. By Ahmad (Toronto) |
| Nice! Much more than simply a Christmas album. By faust8577 (Lorraine, Que. Canada) |
| Winter did come, in shimmering silver! XD First and foremost, this album is a throw away from traditional reliance on sleigh bells and twinkle star anthems on the usual release of a Christmas record. Surprisingly, "And Winter Came" contains mellow riffs of violins, cello's and some hints of viola's together with her piano compositions too. Creating a wonderful sound landscape of white snow and dreamy silver paradise. Enya hits at number one when it comes to her creativity. With her voice and breathy vocals. This album adds a wonderful pantheon to quiet Christmas fires at home and hot chocolate! Thank you Enya for gracing us for your talent and exceptional musical magnificence! | Best from her ever She has dug deep, to find the new ways of arranging, and that shines with some eligance that is to be experienced... make no mistake, there is no shartcuts taken in any of the tracks, listen it to belive the class redefined. By shamtanu_b (india) |
| A Musical Mastepiece!! Her best recorded material for the 2000s. Every vocal and instrument shines and shimmers with such a calm beauty. I'm glad she decided to go with a more "wintery" theme than the restricitive same-old, same-old Christmas music. It makes you feel like you can listen to it any time of year. By HUGO (Jupiter, FL) |

Day Without Rain CD (2000) Top Seller
And Winter Came album A DAY WITHOUT RAIN won the 2002 Grammy Award for Best New Age Album.
Celtic songbird Enya is nothing if not consistent--A DAY WITHOUT RAIN won't disappoint anyone who was entranced by her first major hit "Orinoco Flow." The same blend of adult-contemporary pop, Celtic overtones, and peaceful, new age-derived ambience fills these songs. Enya knows how to set a mood, and she takes her time establishing the themes here; the title cut that opens the album doesn't even have any words, just Enya's harmoniously overdubbed humming.
Speaking of overdubs, Enya sang and played every single thing on A DAY WITHOUT RAIN herself, demonstrating both an impressive versatility and a remarkable steadiness of vision. With the (seemingly) sampled timpani and strings that adorn much of the album, some of the cuts here ...

Amarantine CD (2005) Top Seller
And Winter Came songs After a five-year silence in the wake of her phenomenally successful release A DAY WITHOUT RAIN, Enya reemerged in 2005 with AMARANTINE. The singer knows better than to mess with a good thing, and all of the hallmarks of her sound are here: the evocative Celtic overtones, the symphonic arrangements and lush soundscapes, and the singer's pure, haunting vocals. Additionally, Enya's long-time creative sidekicks--producer arranger Nicky Ryan and lyricist Roma Ryan--are on board here too, and the time-tested results show.
AMARANTINE, a poetic name for a mythical, everlasting flower, is an appropriate metaphor for the music. Luxuriant, mysterious, and with a deep aesthetic sense, Enya's music seems to surge and unfurl like a blooming flower. Fans who feared Enya may have lost her touch since this album's multi-platinum predecessor can rest easy. Atmospheric, stirring, and masterfully executed, AMARANTINE is as fully realized and accomplished as anything the artist has released.
