(3 Customer Reviews)
Technically Miley Cyrus's second solo album--the first being MEET MILEY CYRUS, the latter part of HANNAH MONTANA 2--2008's BREAKOUT finds the energetic young superstar drawing a distinct line between herself and her blonde-wig-wearing TV character. This shedding of MONTANA persona gives the outing the assertive feel of a debut, as readily heard on the triumphant title track and the jangly, fast-paced "7 Things." Cyrus also takes on Cyndi Lauper's 1980s hit "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun," imbuing the giddy tune with the same kind of 21st-century sheen that No Doubt gave to Talk Talk's "It's My Life."
Naturally, Billy Ray's daughter makes room for some introspective ballads during the second half of BREAKOUT, with "Bottom of the Ocean" and "Four Walls" distinguishing themselves as moody and mature songs that expand Miley's teeny-bopper sound. There are no major curveballs on BREAKOUT, just accessible pop/rock tracks that showcase a steadily developing artist in the spotlight.
This DVD includes 3 of her smash hits PLUS 2 brand new exclusive songs, one of which features Trace Cyrus of Metro Station, plus over 35 minutes of fantastic live, performances and interviews, video clip and making of the video, plus live performances, all recorded at the legendary Capitol Records Recording Studio in Hollywood California! Live performances from the Disney Channel Games are included as well as an exclusive interview with Miley talking about the making of her album and her influences!Rolling Stone (p.84) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "With BREAKOUT, Disney's queen bee finally has a sophisticated pop record under her own name....The songs feel genuine." Entertainment Weekly (p.69) - "BREAKOUT's best tunes let Cyrus be feisty without graduating to Avril-like levels of petulance: 'Full Circle,' 'The Driveway,' and the single '7 Things,' which veers from sensitive breakup song in the strummy verses to punky-pop kiss-off in the double-time choruses." -- Grade: B Miley Cyrus Breakout Songs Purchase Breakout CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Jonas Brothers Little Bit Longer CD (2008) Cdvu

$13.75 At times, it was hard to figure out whether Berlin were an average synth pop band trying to carve out their own niche or just a mediocre rock band jumping on the new wave bandwagon. Sure, they had some good singles and radio hits, but as an album band, they left a lot to be desired. Terri Nunn was beautiful and sexy, but it seemed like Berlin wanted to be more than just a commercial band with a hot vocalist: they seemed to be striving for greatness but settled for "that'll do." Unfortunately, they never had a chance to really prove themselves, breaking up after their commercially disappointing Count Three & Pray album, released in 1986. Nunn has kept the Berlin name alive over the years, touring with a different group of musicians and playing all the hits while releasing the occasional studio or live album. With a recorded output that seems to dwindle in quality with every release, one might hope that All the Way In would deviate ...

$6.69 TREE I am an Artist......... Like many artists, I can't remember a time when I didn't draw, paint or sing. I grew up in Chicago, and two things stand out in my memory as giving me great joy: My grandmother's drive and criticism on everything I did to keep me motivated and the hood for creating a monster. I say a monster because those two things made me the man I am today. Music is my life whether I make it BIG or not. I just like to see people have a good time and enjoy great music. I'm tired of hearing these songs about people getting beat up or shot in the club......Music is suppose to sooth the mind, body, and soul so I think its time for someone to step it up. That someone is Tree!!!!! My Style......... I really don't have a particular style. I can say Tupac and Biggie were influential to my style but I think I'm different from the rest. I'm different because I'll do country, blues, jazz, rock, pop, etc. It really doesn't matter as long as its fun and sounds good. I absorb my ...
| | Kate Band Dunphy Life At The Speed Of Sound CD (2005)
Breakout music CDs
$10.29 The Kate Dunphy Band is a piano driven pop/rock jam band out of Hartford, CT. The band performs all original music by Kate Dunphy. Kate's music is brought to life by the multi-talented band members she employs. They blend many influences and genres into their own unique style of music that is difficult to throw into one category. The band is known for their catchy songs, tasteful jamming, tight arrangements and amazing musicianship. As one of the only jam-oriented female band leaders in the country, Kate's live show blends rock, jazz, funk, folk, and latin music featuring explosive jams and solos that always leave the crowd begging for more. Kate's band consists of Steve Quam on bass, Steve Elmy on Guitar, Jason Anick on Electric Violin and Rob Griffith on Drums. The band has performed at many reputable venues around the northeast including: The Bitter End in New York City, The Grape Street Pub in Philadelphia, The Webster Theatre and Sully's Pub in Hartford, as well as frequent performances at the University of Hartford including Spring Fling 2006 where they opened for hip-hop star Method Man. The band independently released their debut CD 'Life at the Speed of Sound,' in March of 2005. The record was well-received and left their fans eager to see what they would come up with next. The band re-entered the studio at the beginning of 2006 to record an album that better represents their true sound. The result is their new EP "Outside Up & Inside Down." This record shows the bands versatility and how they can perform many styles authentically, but still keep their original signature within the music. 'Outside Up & Inside Down' will be on sale at the end of May. In the meantime, the band is booking their fall 2006 tour which will include stops in many cities and college campuses. CD Review: By Brian Verderosa (University of Hartford Informer)Going to a university, not to mention one which contains theprestigious Hartt School of Music, you're bound to see and heartons of newly formed bands and musical acts - Lord knows Ihave. In my time here I've heard a lot of promising and talentedfolks, but the Kate Dunphy Band takes the proverbial cake.Their debut, "Life at the Speed of Sound," is a perfectrepresentation of the unique and soulful sound Kate and herboys create. The band - all Hartt majors - is comprised ofDunphy on piano and vocals, Adam Kubota on both electric andupright bass, Steve Elmy on guitar and Rob Griffith handling thedrum kit."Life" may be short - seven tracks and a little over a half hour -but it certainly is sweet, starting off with a bang with "ExtremeLiving," which contains Dunphy's best written verse and achorus that doesn't hit until haflway through the song. Withintrospective lyrics ("Maybe someday he'll get used to life in thistown / and learn to live his whole life at the speed of sound")and a show-stopping voice, Dunphy commands the listener withher smooth blend of rock and jazz. | | Pete Mcdonald Here And Gone CD (2005)
Breakout album
$15.19 Pete McDonald is a songwriter based in Cleveland, OH. Elise Huneke-Stone is a songwriter and novelist based in Portland, OR. The songs on Here and Gone sound like a folk-rock fusion between Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young spiced up with elements of Dylan and more contemporary singer-songwriters like Ryan Adams and Josh Ritter. Pete's songwriting reflects a deep understanding of the great songwriters of our times and a background of Appalachian music, family, farming, work, relationships, and travel. In the up-tempo rocker "On the Radio," Pete packs in lyrics like early Springsteen, painting a picture of the Utah landscape in the first verse and then moving on to cover themes ranging from environmentalism to coming to terms with the pains and confusion of childhood. In Evangeline, a haunting tale about an unusual death, Pete transports the listener to the central plains of America, simultaneously capturing the landscape, farming, family life, depression, love, and loss with vivid imagery and a bare bones instrumental arrangement. In addition to his own material, Pete teamed up with friend and novelist Elise Huneke Stone (who also wrote for Pete's first album) to co-write six of the fourteen songs for the new release Here and Gone. Elise brings an edgy poetic hand to songs like "Can't Be True" and "American Dream," a tale evoking the Great Depression, but modern at the same time. As a novelist, Elise applies her understanding ...
