For a time in the late '50s and early '60s, before all the sprawling, enticing malls, there were malt shops that gave teens a place to, well, be teenagers. Time Life's Malt Shop Memories series re-creates the feel of those lost days, and each installment is a wonderful time capsule. This one, subtitled "Dancing in the Streets," features Connie Francis' oddly haunting and melancholy "Where the Boys Are," the Diamonds' "Little Darlin'," the title tune, "Dancing in the Street," from Martha & the Vandellas (as well as "Heat Wave" from the same group), and the Marvelettes' cheerfully threatening "Don't Mess with Bill," among others. The only thing missing is the tactile experience of punching the buttons on one of those big old beautiful jukeboxes and that timeless moment when the needle drops and life resumes again in a familiar song. ~ Steve Leggett Malt Shop Memories: Dancing In The Street Music Malt Shop Memories: Dancing In The Street Songs | 1. | Heat Wave - Martha & the Vandellas |

Malt Shop Memories: Dancing In The Street album
$9.39 English rock outfit Placebo have earned themselves a cozy niche on the new millennium Britpop map with their combination of moody, edgy guitar sounds, post-grunge punch, and theatrical flair. MEDS, Placebo's fifth release, finds the band refining the best qualities of their previous albums into a stylish, streamlined whole that shows them moving forward and maturing.
"Fall Into You" blends punky energy with emo-tinged confessional expression, a sound that links Placebo to many early-2000s bands, but maintains a distinctive edge. Placebo know their rock history, drawing on driving post-punk a la Joy Division ("Song to Say Goodbye") and moody Cure-influenced tunes ("Follow the Cops Back Home"), but it's on nervous, anthemic rockers like "Infra-Red" that the band is at their best.
With 2004's release of Placebo's singles collection, the band reaffirmed that it has never quite fit into any particular fad. Their success has been gradual in the sense that their style and sound have progressed naturally with each album. Meds builds upon that notion while also embarking on a new phase for Placebo. Meds is their second coming. Frontman Brian Molko is no longer the glam-chic, gender-bending firestarter he once was. His songs are still angry and twisted in self-reflection and social rejection. Meds doesn't contain the rush to experiment like their previous records do. It's as bare and honest as Placebo have ever been, thanks to French producer Dimitri Tikovoi's straightforward approach in getting the band to make a bona fide rock record. There's a fresh vulnerability ...

$11.49 Captivating audiences with her sensual performances and her alluring charismatic charm, gifted vocalist MARIEL LARSEN explodes on the jazz scene with a debut album produced by multiple Grammy award winning producer/engineer Elliot Scheiner - known for his superb recordings, and the pristine sounds of Steely Dan, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Sting, Van Morrison, Bruce Hornsby, BB King, Faith Hill, and many other talented artists. A big fan of Elliot\'s work, and a musician who appreciates precision and exquisite care, Mariel contacted the legendary veteran to produce her first album. \"Elliot wanted to do a jazz record which was perfect, recalls Mariel. I had been singing the standards my whole life! Better yet, we both loved the sounds of sultry jazz artists like Julie London - and the intimate after hours cool jazz records, so we began our process of selecting timeless jazz classics from the American Songbook for my auspicious \"after hours\" debut.\"Mariel Larsen, offers a first glimpse of a new voice in Jazz. Her desire for a simple and sincere reading of the lyric, has led to a new style of Jazz interpretation that is not encumbered with a studious adherence to ornamentation or artifice. Her readings of these timeless jazz classics are rife with feeling and devoid of unnecessary noodling that has polluted the current jazz vocal scene. Her rich voice is like a deep ocean that swallows the listener and compels them to listen further; her intense moments are strong and infrequent, leaving the audience to beg for more. Words are clear and uncluttered, with interpretations that are authentic to the composers’ intent. Her intonation is absolutely spot–on.Just listen to But Beautiful, a simple, yet elegant opener setting the mood, followed by Comes Love and Taking A Chance On Love, articulating the inevitable emotions of unexpected love. The Nearness Of You and Prelude To A Kiss, both an honest evocation of new love; Haunted Heart and More Than You Know sit squarely in the moment ...
