Donna - Mozart: Opera & Concert Arias / Diana Damrau, Jérémie Rhorer, Le Cercle De L'Harmonie Music Review
Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars)

Damrau's best.
As an avid Natalie Dessay fan, I have to admit that I sometimes feel that I have an unfair bias against Damrau. However, I have to say that this CD is amazing. The Mozart arias, widely varied but never stretching her voice too far, fit her perfectly. I especially enjoyed her 'Mi Tradi', which makes me hope that she will sing Elvira as well as her scheduled Anna in 2009 (?), although her 'Non mi dir' was also excellent. Her countess was also better than expected (from one of the best Queens) and her 'Dove Sono' was, although not quite in the class of a Te Kanawa, Schwarpzkopf, or Popp, smooth and refined. The only disappointment for me was the 'Martern Aller Arten'. I have heard her sing the role of Konstanze twice (Frankfurt and NY) and I think that her singing lacks the passion and power she had those times in this CD, but it is still a thrilling rendition. Overall, I have to say that this is a great CD and it was worth every penny. Easily 5 stars.
