Comprising singer and guitarist Rodrigo Amarante (of Los Hermanos), singer Binki Shapiro, and drummer Fabrizo Moretti (of the Strokes), Little Joy creates with their debut a thoroughly enjoyable album of sweet, simple indie pop. The mood is laid-back and bright, with stylistic flashes of reggae, MPB, folk, soul, and soft rock (with no little influence from the Beatles and the Beach Boys), and the whole is satisfying from beginning to end. It invites the listener to open the windows, turn up the stereo, and kick back. And as seemingly breezy and feel-good as LITTLE JOY might be, the songs are surprisingly durable and invite repeated listens.Rolling Stone (p.90) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "With Moretti on guitars, drums and backing vocals, the vibe is closing time at the Beachcomber: century pop with Jamaican, Hawaiian and bossa nova flavors." Spin (p.106) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "[T]he debut's barbershop harmonies, Hawaiian strumming, and lovesick melodies transform rock-club jadedness into an aesthetic fit for honeymoons..." Billboard (p.29) - "Little Joy play a laidback brand of indie pop....In the studio with producer Noah Georgeson the three traded off instruments, and that evidently established an appealingly freewheeling vibe..." Mojo (Publisher) (p.102) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "Their debut certainly has an air of simple kicks about it, of lazy, starry Californian nights, of liberation from uptight Manhattan." | | Rush Working Men CD (2009)
Little Joy
$14.30 Rush is no stranger to best-of compilation albums, they've released a slew of them. They are also no stranger to DVDs. To mark their 35th anniversary, they've released Working Men, which is both; it marks their first best-of live compilation exclusively from the DVD sets Rush in Rio (2003), R30 (2005), and Snakes & Arrows Live (2008). There is also an unreleased cut from R30 -- a killer version of One Little Victory. While fans may simply regard this as a record company cash grab, hardcore fans know how closely Rush monitors each release and controls all aspects of their career. On hearing these tracks without benefit of the visuals, it becomes lucidly clear that in the 21st century, Rush plays more like a hungry act looking to prove themselves rather than as seasoned veterans jaded by the entire business. The instrumental interaction between Neal Peart, Alex Lifeson, and Geddy Lee is utterly uncanny, the anticipation and the willingness to add flourishes and to challenge one another in the bridges and solo sections reveal their command of the material and their empathies for one another's playing strengths. One of the more revealing things on a live record such as this one is the sophistication in Lee's vocal delivery now that his singing voice has deepened with age. The only time on the entire disc when it doesn't entirely work is when he tries to recapture his old, piercing caterwaul on 2112, but in that spontaneity there is not only charm, but the surprise that he can still get close to that pitch. The track list contains material from every period in the band's

| | Foo Fighters Greatest Hits CDs (2009) With DVD
Little Joy
$14.38 Dave Grohl formed Foo Fighters with ex-Germ Pat Smear and the rhythm section of early-emo-warriors Sunny Day Real Estate shortly after the sudden tragic end of Nirvana. That what was seemingly an overshadowed drummer's side project became one of the leading alternative rock bands for over a decade is one of the more impressive stories of the post-grunge era. A deft mix of emo's pomp, punk rock's kick, and power pop's hooks, Foo Fighters ...

| | Rolling Stones Still Life (American Concert 1981) CD (1982) Reissue; Remastered
Little Joy
$7.96 By the early '80s, the Rolling Stones were one of the last remaining groups leftover from the original "British Invasion" two decades prior. One of the main reasons for this was the Stones' ability to keep pace with the musical climate of the time, without losing any of their original blues-sleaze. Their 1982 live set (fourth overall) STILL LIFE, was taken from performances from their hugely successful U.S. tour a year before, when Mick, Keith and company headlined the biggest outdoor stadiums and vast arenas.
Although it lacks the youthful and unpredictable energy of their earlier concert albums (namely 1970's GET YER YA YA'S OUT), STILL LIFE showed that the Stones still had plenty of gas left in their tank 20 years down the road. Highlights include a cover of the Miracles' "Going to a Go Go" (an early MTV favorite), such '60s classics as "Under My Thumb," "Time is on My Side," and "Satisfaction," plus the '70s nugget "Shattered." Surprisingly, no selections from the album they were touring behind at the time, TATTOO YOU, are included.
Recorded live in New York, New York in 1981.
Personnel: Keith Richards, Mick Jagger, Ron Wood (vocals, guitar); Ernie Watts (saxophone); Ian Stewart ...

| | Saturday Looks Good To Me Fill Up The Room Vinyl LP (2007)
Little Joy
$13.89 Mere months after the 2007 release of the moody COLD COLORS EP, Saturday Looks Good to Me unveiled its fourth full-length outing, FILL UP THE ROOM. Easily the indie-pop collective's most ambitious and expansive album, this 11-track set often recalls a more restrained Arcade Fire, particularly on the restless "When I Lose My Eyes," which vibrates with tense guitar-and-drum lines, and the dreamy "Make a Plan," a tune that calls attention to frontman ...

| | Dexter Gordon Go! Vinyl LP (1962) Bonus CD
Little Joy
$19.59 The Rudy Van Gelder Edition of GO! includes an essay by Bob Blumenthal.
Digitally remastered using 24-bit technology by Rudy Van Gelder (1998, Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey).
This is part of the Blue Note Rudy Van Gelder Editions series.
Arguably the best of the uniformly excellent sides Gordon cut for Blue Note between 1961 and 1965. The master of bebop tenor saxophone stretches out on six cuts including his own classic "Cheese Cake" and a Latin-tinged version of Cole Porter's "Love for Sale." He also lends his huge tenor sound to gorgeous readings of the ballads "Where Are You" and "I Guess I'll Have to Hang My Tears Out to Dry." Gordon is ably assisted by a dream of a rhythm section featuring Sonny Clark on piano, Butch Warren on bass, and Billy Higgins on drums. GO was recorded in New York just before Gordon began an extended European exile.
Recorded at the Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey on August 27, 1962. Originally released ...
| | Motley Crue Girls, Girls, Girls Vinyl LP (1987) Reissue
Little Joy
$16.89 Principally recorded at Conway Recording Studios, Los Angeles, California in March 1987. Includes interviews conducted by Alan K. Stout.
Despite plummeting to the depths of hard-drug abuse and alcoholism, Motley Crue scored another mega-hit album with 1987's GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS. With singer Vince Neil's vehicular manslaughter trial behind him, the Crue was able to concentrate solely on the music. But GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS is still not up to par with Motley Crue's first two classic albums, TOO FAST FOR LOVE and SHOUT AT THE DEVIL, due to the presence of many forgettable songs. Even bassist Nikki Sixx has since admitted that the out-of-control Crue should not have been touring or recording at the time.
The videos for the album's first two rocking cuts, "Wild Side" and the title track, were aired constantly on MTV throughout the summer of '87. A disturbing third clip was made for the ballad "You're All I Need" but was subsequently banned by the network. GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS also features a tribute to Sixx's late grandmother "Nona," an unnecessary live cover of Elvis Presley's "Jailhouse Rock," and such anti-drug messages as "Dancing on Glass" and "Five Years Dead"-ironic in light of the Crue's known active-user status
