| | Buddy Holly Down The Line: Rarities CD Buddy Holly Discography of CDs
(3 Customer Reviews)
Released to coincide with the 50th anniversary of his death, the revealing 59-track, two-disc DOWN THE LINE: THE RARITIES offers a glimpse of the man and the recordings behind the Buddy Holly legend. While not for newcomers, members of Holly's not insubstantial cult will find a treasure trove of obscure and previously unreleased gems, highlighted by recordings of Holly and classmate Bob Montgomery, the Crickets' "Garage Tapes" cut in the Holly family's garage in late 1956, and the legendary "Apartment Tapes," the last recording made by Holly before his death--all in virgin, un-dubbed form. The set also includes outtakes and alternate versions of better known Crickets' cuts, all of which offer an insightful glimpse into Buddy Holly at work in the studio.

Pure Unadulterated Holly I remember when Coral brought out the single 'Blue Monday' and the album 'Giant' to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Buddy's death.
My how time flies? And, here we have the 50th anniversary commemorative! There's not many hits here - but for the fans there's a wealth of alternate versions and the stripped back 'Apartment Tapes'- just Buddy and his guitar with home demos of his final songs. Much better than the Norman Petty overdubs which these tapes were hidden behind.
If you are new to Buddy Holly you'll be better off with the hits, but this one is a treat for long term fans.

A treasure trove for hardcore fans! Finally you can hear the complete, original and unsweetened "Apartment Tapes", the solo recordings Buddy made shortly before his death. Also the rocking "Garage Tapes" from his parents home featuring surprisingly good chemistry between Buddy and drummer Jerry Allison. The first disc showcases many of the early country "Buddy and Bob" duo recordings. Overall, a real treat for longtime Holly fans. Submitted by dbzim41 (Milwaukee, WI, USA) Was This Review Helpful?
