Festival Musicali songs
$7.09 (MP3 Available for Download) The '60s Blues Revival begins here. Calling this album influential is an understatement akin to calling the Grand Canyon a rut; suffice to say that an entire generation of musicians (mostly young and white) heard this and had their lives changed forever. In fact, for at least a year after the album's release in 1965, it was impossible to walk down the hall of any college dorm in America without hearing one of the songs here echoing from somebody's room.
Heard today, the thing still packs a wallop. Butterfield's harmonica and vocals are utterly idiomatic, without a hint ...

$14.89 Recorded between 1980 & 1990. Includes liner notes by Andy Aledort.
Epic's THE ESSENTIAL STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN AND DOUBLE TROUBLE gathers two discs' worth of the late blues guitarist's work, including many live performances and a few tracks with the Vaughan Brothers. The collection presents Vaughan's material in roughly chronological order, from the 1980 live recording "Shake for Me" to 1989's "Life by the Drop." It also touches on most of Vaughan's definitive songs and performances, including "Tightrope," "Wall of Denial," "Couldn't Stand the Weather," and "Cold Shot," and live versions of "The Sky Is Crying," "Superstition," and "Rude Mood/Hide Away." Though this album doesn't offer anything that hasn't already been released in some form or another, it does go into slightly more depth than several of the other Stevie Ray Vaughan retrospectives by presenting both his greatest studio hits and some of his best live ...

Festival Musicali MP3 Album
$9.95 (MP3 Available for Download) Digitally remastered by Erick Labson (1996, MCA Music Media Studios).
Jimmy Scott is rightly considered by many to be one of the finest jazz singers ever. Actor Joe Pesci said he learned to act by watching Little Jimmy Scott sing when he was growing up. This set includes some his first sessions, from 1950-1952. The earliest four sets feature Scott accompanied by Lionel Hampton & His Orchestra.
"I Wish I knew" is positively riveting as Hampton's vibes dance around Scott's singing, and Doug Duke's organ lays a soft blanket underneath it all. The previously unissued (one of three such tracks in this collection) "Alone With a Memory" is a real gem. The attention that came to Jimmy Scott (the "Little" was only in use in the first decade of his career) in the '90s brought forth a series of powerfully emotional new recordings. Among these are DREAM, ALL THE WAY, HEAVEN, and HOLDING BACK THE YEARS, all of which are highly recommended. The renewed interest also allowed for well-considered reissues such as this, which prove that Scott's emotional and technical finesse was there from the outset.
Recorded in New York, New York between 1950 and 1952. Includes liner notes by Billy Vera.

Festival Musicali music CDs
$13.15 It was 1976 when I became fully immersed into the music of John Denver. My step-brother Mike had every John Denver album to date and was an avid fan. Mike hated me messing with his albums and so I had to wait until he was at school or at work to sneak into the room and play his albums and his guitar over and over again until I finally mastered the songs. Little did I know at that time that this labor of love would translate in to a career in music. The final outcome was worth the risk ...
