Ever since their version of Bacharach-David song,"Close To You" hit the charts in 1970, the Carpenters have long seemed the epitome of anti-rock. Actually, Richard Carpenter revered the Beatles and Beach Boys just as much as Burt Bacharach. So there was more of a continuum with the '60s pop/rock tradition than appearances might suggest. Karen Carpenter is simply a singer of the first rank, comparable to pop divas like Patsy Cline and the Brazilian Elis Regina. On this classic (now remastered) singles collection, spanning hits from the early "Ticket To Ride" up until "Goodbye To Love," Karen's warm, sure voice, filled with an uncanny (and sad) grace, transforms smooth pop melodies and lyrics into something deep and abiding.
Australian exclusive collection of singles spanning their entire career, from 1969 to 1981. 21 tracks including '(They Long To Be) Close To ...

Mr. Deeds Goes To Town review
$20.29 PAC MAN WORLD 2, by Namco for the PS2, takes the remake of the classic arcade game to a new level with 3D graphics and more. Just like in the arcade version, gamers must help Pac-man catch the five fruit pieces that the ghosts have taken. But, unlike the original, this version has a twist when the ghosts stole the fruit from the tree, they released a much greater evil, which Pac-man has to stop by replacing the fruit. The game includes over 20 levels over 6 worlds, where Pac-man must adapt by using different ways of moving about including skating and swimming, which is one of the features that makes the second game stand out from the first. In PAC MAN WORLD 2, the play is exciting and intense the whole time. Not only do players have to avoid obstacles ...

Mr. Deeds Goes To Town DVD
$14.05 After a number of singles and EPs, British electronica duo Zero 7 made their full-length debut with 2001's SIMPLE THINGS, an inspired fusion of loungey electronica a la the French duo Air and the more assertive trip-hop of Massive Attack and Tricky. At its heart, SIMPLE THINGS has all the same elements that many similar records have had ever since the early days of Soul II Soul: subtle and inventive sampling, R&B diva vocals, Kraftwerk-like synthesizer chills, and tasteful beats and bass lines to tie the whole thing together. The difference is that Sam Hardaker and Henry Binns, the core of Zero 7, keep those ingredients in precisely the correct proportions.

$15.09 Paul Morrissey's second installment of his groundbreaking lowlife trilogy--a nod to the "sex, drugs, and rock-and-roll" credo--stars Joe Dallesandro as Joe, a ragged heroin addict living in a filthy tenement on the Lower East Side of Manhattan with his girlfriend, Holly (Holly Woodlawn). Rendered impotent by his drug use, but driven by his addiction, Joe futilely tries to earn drug money as a hustler. While he scours the streets looking for junk, Holly searches the dumpsters, alleys, and garbage piles of the city looking for trashy treasures. Joe's quest precipitates a series of misadventures, alternately harrowing and humorous, including a single-shot intravenous drug session. There are also several sexual encounters featuring an eclectic cast of characters, including a vivacious Go-Go Dancer (Geri Miller), an LSD-crazed princess (Andrea Feldman), a bored housewife (Jane Forth) and her architect husband (Bruce Pecheur), and Holly's extremely pregnant sister (Diane Podlewski). Unfortunately, none of these episodes are able to ...

$19.75 How have the internal machinations of the film industry changed since Robert Altman expertly dissected them with the biting satire of THE PLAYER (1992)? Not a whole lot, according to this witty picture from Barry Levinson, which has been crafted from Hollywood producer Art Linson's memoir of the same name. WHAT JUST HAPPENED? follows film producer Ben (Robert De Niro) as he deals with precocious directors and stars, tends to the needs of various ex-wives, and makes multi-million-dollar deals from his car. The film mixes fantasy and reality, with Sean Penn and Bruce ...
