I AM. SASHA FIERCE represents another change of pace for Beyoncé. Unlike the relatively streamlined, retro-soul inflected B'DAY, I AM... is a sprawling two-disc set designed to reflect two conflicting sides of Beyoncé's musical personality. The first disc sports reflective, sometimes moody ballads, while the second, attributed to Beyoncé's brash alter ego, Sasha Fierce, is loaded with propulsive dance-floor fillers. Except for this stylistic divide, I AM. pays only nominal attention to its supposed concept, focusing instead on a set of excellent, radio-ready songs--neatly avoiding the possibility of I AM. becoming some sort of Chris Gaines-style conceptual disaster. Though the second disc, which boasts the synth-drenched lead single, "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)," is more immediately gratifying, the impeccably produced ballads of the first disc represent a vast improvement on the often awkward torch songs that weighed down Beyoncé's first solo record. In non-Deluxe Edition form, Beyoncé's third solo studio album is as concise as 2006's B'day, but it is divided into two discs as a way to emphasize the singer's distinct personalities. It's a gimmick, of course -- a flimsy one. Revealed through interviews in 2005, Sasha was said to be Beyoncé's "stage persona," an embodiment of the outgoing, aggressive, on-stage Beyoncé that doesn't necessarily represent the real Beyoncé. Sasha now has a last name (possibly picked up from Tyra Banks, who maybe took a cue from Klymaxx), and is granted half an album (the second disc) to express herself. These five songs, when compared to the majority of B'day, are actually less fun, less impulsive, and yes, less fierce. "Diva," a variation on Lil Wayne's "A Milli," is the only track that could go toe to toe with the likes of B'day's "Freakum Dress" or "Ring the Alarm," at least in terms of audacity. At the other end is "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)," a dire "Get Me Bodied" retread. Otherwise, the Sasha Fierce half is full of decent, if easily forgettable, upbeat pop. If placed within the context of an album without a packaging ploy, there'd be little evidence that Beyoncé is making a radical progression or being any more bold than before. It would, if anything, be notable as the least R&B-oriented batch of songs she has made -- that is, if it wasn't for the I Am half, essentially a small set of adult contemporary ballads. Acoustic guitars, pianos, strings, contemplative soul searching, and grand sweeping gestures fill it out, with more roots in '70s soft rock than soul. Beyoncé feels each line to the fullest extent, which almost rescues the set's staidness. "If I Were a Boy," while sounding like the watery backdrop for a singing competition finale, turns out to be the album's standout, both for its lyrics and Beyoncé's tormented performance. It could have been the song that broke an unfairly neglected adult-R&B singer like Heather Headley into the mainstream, and don't be surprised if a country artist nabs a CMA Award by covering it. ~ Andy Kellman
Deluxe EditionRolling Stone (p.121) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "The SASHA disc boasts Beyonce's most adventurous music yet....The girl who blew up going all melismatic has never sung with more restraint than she does on SASHA." Entertainment Weekly (p.71) - "[S]everal of the high-gloss bangers on SASHA are more than equal to the gauntlet laid down by 'Single Ladies.'" -- Grade: B+ Billboard (p.77) - "[I]t's the classic, more timeless R&B songs on the I AM portion of the album that seem like a much-welcomed stretch for the singer.' Creativity is rare Beyonce has fallen into the "see how many records you can sell" trap. I am really tired of these major record companies taking talented artists, and turning them into cash hounds. When you go "pop" it is no longer about your music, or heart, and is ALL about cash.
This album is not an album by Beyonce, but yet an album by a team of people trying to put a "sound" on wax with Beyonce as the figure head on the album. Gotta have your mellowdramatic cuts for the women that have been dogged, gotta have your "i am a strong woman" cuts where you don't need men in your life, gotta have your dirty south sound on some cuts (i can't wait for that crap to get played out...and i think it's coming soon), and it probably has about 3 songs on there from her...but nothing stands out at all. there is no heart, or soul to this album. I Am... Sasha Fierce is FIERCE!!! I'm totally loving this ENTIRE ALBUM!!! It gets off to a really good start with IIWAB then transitions into, in my opinion, the best song on the album HALO. This song is definitely should be her next single. I could totally see her staying on the charts for weeks with this song because it is so intense and it gave me goosebumps the first time I heard it. The other songs on the I AM part are excellent also so there's no need for me to mention them individually, with the exception of AVE MARIA. This song is another one that gave me goosebumps! Awesome!
Sasha Fierce is just that FIERCE! Starts with a great song and ends very well also. Loving DIVA!!!! It should also be another single, although I don't think it will do well on the Top 100 charts.. Maybe the Hip-Hop/R&B Charts.. But still loving the entire album.. I was weary about BEY because of the last album which let me down a little but she definitely redeemed herself! Money well spent Submitted by bevaughn1 (springfield, mo) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 3 of 4 found this helpful.
AMAZING BEYONCE ALBUM AS USUAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Beyonce can do no wrong...I mean all 3 of her albums went platinum so quickly...This was by far among the best work she's done. There's something for everyone! The smooth R&B ballads on the I Am... side and the up-tempo dance tracks on Sasha Fierce and even some fierce ballads there too. I LOVE "Smash Into You", "Halo", "Scared Of Lonely", "Diva", "Single Ladies", "Radio"...OH HELL, I LOVE EM ALL!!!! I play it right thru everyday...Definitely worth the money! Amazing person and amazing voice...you go girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Submitted by hotmax14 (Trinidad) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.

I Am Sasha Fierce
$25.35 For nearly three decades Powder Blues has been Canada’s favorite blues band. Their music incorporates elements of Swing, Blues, Jazz, Rock & Roll and Rhythm & Blues into their unique and instantly identifiable sound. This broad approach has resulted in an appeal whose demographic is so wide that it is not unusual to find people from seven to seventy swaying side by side at a Powder Blues concert. Throughout the years they have toured ceaselessly throughout Canada, the United States and overseas, spreading the joy of a music that makes people smile and dance.Fads come and go, as in the current resurgence of Swing, Juke and Jive music, but Powder Blues is no follower of trends. When they first burst upon the recording scene in late 1979, with their self-financed and self-produced debut album, ‘Uncut’, after nearly two years of wood shedding and honing their unique blend of sounds in Vancouver’s then flourishing nightclub scene, the established recording industry label giants shrugged their effort off as ‘not commercial’. The band was told there was ‘no market for the blues’.Undiscouraged, the band pressed the album at their own expense and proceeded to sell it off stage and deliver it to radio stations. When the switchboards at the stations lit up with calls asking ‘who’s that?’ other stations followed suit. After selling nearly 30,000 copies in a matter of weeks, the major record labels came calling and entered a bidding war for the band’s services and the right to distribute this ‘non-commercial’ product nationally. RCA won the contract and to date that album has gone on to sell over a million copies worldwide.Band highlights include winning Canada’s most prestigious National Music Award, the Juno, in 1981, headlining and recording a live album at the world famous Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland in 1983, being presented with the W.C. Handy Award in Memphis, Tennessee in 1986 and touring the Soviet Union and being released on Melodya Records in 1990. They have appeared in concert with such legendary names as Willie Dixon, John Lee Hooker, B.B. King, James Brown, Albert Collins, James Cotton, ...
