Syncopated City album
$10.49 A HARD DAY'S NIGHT presents a fictionalized day in the life of the Beatles as they give a performance on a live television show. Filmed just a month after their appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show in February 1964, this film--the Beatles' first--introduces us to the unique personalities of each member of the band. The film opens with the Fab Four boarding a train mobbed with adoring young fans (mostly women) as they attempt to travel to the television studio in London. The antics of the band during rehearsals and makeup application provide a large part of the comic material in this feature, though there are other moments of pure hilarity. The unscripted vignette featuring a hangover-suffering Ringo is especially funny, particularly when he is arrested and risks having to miss the broadcast. None of this goes unnoticed by the director of the show, played by Victor Spinetti, who went on to become a recurring cast member in Beatles movies. As the clock ticks away dramatically, our heroes manage to free Ringo from jail and sneak onto the stage in the nick of time, ...
| | Mannheim Steamroller Christmas 25th Anniversary Collection CDs (2009)
Syncopated City CD music
$14.95 The CHRISTMAS 25th ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION celebrates the chocolate-and-peanut-butter match that is Chip Davis' aural string assault and the yuletide season's turning a quarter-century old. The style is timeless; as it was in 1984, the lush ...
| | Justin Bieber My World CD (2009) Enhanced CD
Syncopated City music CDs
$8.19 Within a couple years, Canadian teenager Justin Bieber went from covering Usher on YouTube to working with Usher. An internet sensation from his renditions of several pop and pop-oriented R&B hits, he was still only 15 years old when he released this, his first album -- though it's more like an EP since it is contains only seven songs that are 25 minutes in duration. Given the comfort level he showed in the material he covered, My World plays it straight, based on the kind of age-appropriate content that would fill out a release from a younger Chris Brown or a junior version of Ne-Yo. Members of the Clutch, Midi Mafia, "Tricky" Stewart, Usher, and a handful of other notable producers and songwriters grant Bieber a set of songs that isn't quite top-level ...

| | Halford III: Winter Songs CD (2009) Special Edition; Digipak
Syncopated City album
$13.75 At first glance, Halford's entry into the crowded holiday market looks like a parody. Heavy metal and Christmas make for strange bedfellows, and WINTER SONGS' pastoral cover art -- which depicts Rob Halford staring wistfully (with a goatee and shades) into a soft, snowy pine forest -- screams Spinal Tap. That said, the Judas Priest frontman approaches yuletide standards like "We Three Kings" and "What Child Is This?" with the same conviction that he applied to Priest classics like "Electric Eye" and "Freewheel Burning" -- it probably helps that most traditional Christmas hymns tend to fall into the same brooding minor keys that serve ...
| | Daughtry Leave This Town CD (2009)
Syncopated City CD music
$15.45 When he was recording his debut album in 2006, Chris Daughtry didn't have the time to assemble the real rock band he so desperately wanted to have, so it appeared under the band name Daughtry without featuring any of the musicians who later became part of the group. That's not the case with LEAVE THIS TOWN, Daughtry's second record: all five members are glowering on the album cover, floating like specters over an abandoned Californian street. The five rockers serve as visual evidence that Daughtry is a band, not a person, and such reminders may be necessary because LEAVE THIS TOWN doesn't differ much in feel or form from DAUGHTRY. Overall, LEAVE THIS TOWN isn't quite as studio slick as DAUGHTRY, which was fueled by Chris Daughtry's desire prove that he belonged in the big leagues; here, he's achieved that goal and he's happy to stay there as long as possible, giving the people what they want in the form of furrow-browed rockers and brooding power ballads, all saved from their self-conscious sobriety by arena-level hooks, hooks that come from Daughtry and a variety of co-writers including Ben Moody and Nickelback's Chad Kroeger. Daughtry brings these big hooks down to human scale, injecting warmth into his ...

| | Fucking Eagles A Million Dollars Worth Of Music CD (2009)
Syncopated City songs
$15.19 THE TOTEM IS STRONG"The Fucking Eagles are the niftiest fake band of the half-moment. A mutantry of contentious quality that proffer the new old-timey, void of a coherent thrill line. Posing interlopers, hack-happy chancers. Self-aware maladroits ghost-smithing varied scraps and hooks yoinked from a dusty American R&R narrative to scratch out a shameless howl & dumb wholly steeped in barren third-world city sophisticrap affectations.Starting as the unfunniest of jokes in 2005 in the arsenic drenched, barren landscapes and history-heavy bar back-rooms of industrial old town Tacoma, Warshington and imbibed on shared no-lifetimes of toxic smelter air and Rosalie ghost stories, the quattro seek to serve up all that smoky sweet raw-packed haunted-city ware in loud, can't danceable, junk soul form. Never mind the caustic name and the faux-tough airs. Ragged good-timey frug & shug is the totem - cooing with the excellently bedheaded masses to unfold arms, unfurrow brows, get on the feets and fuck out loud right along with as they lame their place in rock'n'roll non-history. The soul-full-of-it and the soul-less, the doo wop and the doo wrong, Brill Building tenant discards, and all manner of clunky rhythm'n ...
