Heavy Metal Payback songs
$13.99 SEVEN â DIRT TO DIAMONDSTheotis Haimes says that seven is 'the number that always follows me around.' So when it came to choosing the name he would be known by, Seven was it. With a name for himself, he set out to make sure everyone knew it. 'I've been involved in music since I was able to hear music!' Seven enthuses. 'I was 13 years old when my older brother heard me rapping. I just surprised him, and he gave me confidence that I could do this.' Growing up strong in NYC, (as Seven proclaims, 'in the city, you grow up a lot faster than anywhere else,') he made the move to Florida with his mother and siblings when he was nine years old. 'Florida seemed a bit segregated then⊠it took a while to adapt.' And although Florida did not offer the wide spectrum of influences New York did, Seven kept his influences close by. 'I loved a really wide variety of music growing up,' Seven recollects. 'I'm just a music person, all the way to country music. But my big influences are Grandmaster Flash, Run DMC [heavily, he notes], 2 Pac⊠I just really like storytelling. I like stuff that's not so materialisticâI want to express more than clothes and jewelry. I love street music; I just don't want to do it. I'm more into the emotions: the hurt, pain and joy.' So when the time came for Seven to make his album, he did it with the same powerful style he grew up on, blended with his own personal touch. With his spitfire rhymes and charismatic delivery hovering and popping above the moody instrumentation of his debut, Dirt 2 Diamonds, Seven presents a relentless record from front to back. 'I used a live band to record with,' Seven says. 'Live music has such a great vibe and I wanted that to carry over onto the album. The live energy can really be heard. And it also allows me to project myself. Live music is the heartbeat⊠no heartbeat, no life.' The southern style of Seven is much different than expected. It's not so 'Dirty South' and it's not New York, but more a mixture of the two, as Seven is. 'I really ...
| | Six To Eight Mathematics High Heels Whiskey & Mayhem CD (2009)
Heavy Metal Payback album
$10.15 The hardest rockinâ female-dominated punk/rock quartet in north Jersey, SixToEight MathematicS makes its mark with a collection of ballsy and powerful punk rock songs and an attitude that there isnât anything women canât do. Life can provide some great song writing material and these gals - and guy - arenât shy about letting it all explode resulting into a fiery collection of high-energy rock and roll. Bold, devoted and determined, SixToEight MathematicS defines the rock formula.Check out this review in Jersey Beat fanzine.By Phil RainoneLovingly known to their fans as S.T.E.M.S. (Hey, try saying, âSix To Eight Mathematicsâ three times fast - now you know why they like to call them S.T.E.M.S! Oh crap, you can say it! Well, hopefully the band will do an interview soon, and weâll get to the bottom of this âSix To Eight Mathematicsâ thing, along with the story of their new album.) Before Six To Eight Mathematics blasts off into punkoramaland, and just to see if youâre paying attention, they open the album with a sort of who-done-it sound effects. First youâll hear of a pair of high heels walking across a wooden floor, then a bottle being smashed (presumably itâs a whiskey bottle), and a womanâs high-pitched scream - âHigh Heels, Whiskey (I hope the bottle was empty before they broke it)& Mayhemâ - get it?! Also, Miss Heather did the cartoonish cover art, depicting the title of the album, along with an old-school amp, that has a nice retro feel to it.So, after two paragraphs of silly stuff (hey, thatâs just the way I roll), youâre probably wonderinâ how the music is? Well, let me put his way. If Lenny Lounge (promoter, DJ, and all-around-cool-guy) was still putting on his monstrously, cool-as-fuck Barrage From The Garage Shows, S.T.E.M.S. would be the unequivocal house band, hands down!!All the songs on the album are full of color. Vividly collaborative, songs like âLove Song?â or âYou Wonât Love Meâ ditch the erotic pleading youâd find from bands that write for the sake of popularity in favor of romantic directness without the frills. In other words, honest love songs without the self-interest, and all the punk rage you can handle. There are no wasted moments on this 8-song disc, just to the point stories like âI Wanna Know, or âParticipate,â that are fueled by punkâs basic rage ânâ roll! This is prime Six To Eight Mathematics! I got turned on to S.T.E.M.S. at one of Lazloâs ...
