Thomas Jackson orchestra is rolling out of Mississippi with the fury of a locomotive. Guitarist/Singer/Songwriter Thomas Jackson and drummer Jed Newell find their own unique ground between the glam highs of T. Rex and the earthiness of Mississippi John Hurt. Since 2006, Jackson’s howling voice and Newell’s potent wallop have combined to drive this engine all over the south. Here, with help from bassist Harry Crumpler, The pair offers 10 songs that veer from Pop (“My New Couch”) to Blues (“Poundcake”) to Folk (“How I Won The War”) featuring Cary Hudson of Blue Mountain – and they still make all stops in between. | | U2 No Line On The Horizon CD (2009)
Thomas Jackson Orchestra songs
$10.49 There's no shortage of legendary producers in line to work with music world titans U2; when work with Rick Rubin broke off, Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois stepped in. The resulting NO LINE ON THE HORIZON, 2009's offering from the Irish rockers, continues in the grand U2 tradition, as soaring pop anthems like opening single "Get on Your Boots" pair with experimental melanges like "Tripoli," on a striking album featuring touches of all the albums come before, yet hinting at new worlds for Bono to conquer.
After spending the 1990s experimenting with electronic music and returning to arena-ready rock during the first few years of the 21st century, U2 stakes out territory somewhere between those two points on 2009's NO LINE ON THE HORIZON. Enlisting its go-to production trio of Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois, and Steve Lillywhite, the Irish quartet seems intent on crafting a quirkier companion piece to HOW TO DISMANTLE AN ATOMIC BOMB, and they succeed with restless tracks such as "Get on Your Boots," which sounds like "Vertigo" hijacked by T. Rex, and "Stand Up Comedy," a wiry number that lets the Edge cut loose with barbed guitar lines. Some of most striking songs on HORIZON are the ones that venture farthest from U2's comfort zone, as on the ...

When she turned eleven the family migrated to New Zealand, where she learned guitar and began using her considerable abilities in various groups in Wellington. In her mid twenties she moved to Melbourne, Australia where she fronted and played in several local bands and began writing original music extensively. After moving back to New Zealand in early 1991 she worked in the local Wellington music scene until 1994 when she met her husband, Fred Baker, a saxophonist from the US. They moved to the states in September of that year where they lived for eight years, performing Natasha’s music at different venues. During this time Natasha honed her writing skills, bringing an eclectic array of western styles and influences to bear upon her Samoan & pacific roots. The result of this amalgamation is largely on display on this debut album along with some earlier work and recent compositions created after Natasha and her family ...
