On 2008's VIVA LA VIDA OR DEATH AND ALL HIS FRIENDS, Coldplay follows up X&Y's accessible anthems by tweaking its signature Britpop sound with the aid of renowned producer Brian Eno, celebrated not only for his own innovative ambient albums, but also for his behind-the-boards work with U2. Eno's contributions don't result in a ZOOROPA-like foray into dance-pop, however--VIVA LA VIDA sticks with Coldplay's knack for mid-tempo majesty, but expands these tracks with studio bells and whistles that pull the group out of its stadium-ready comfort zone.
Issued less than six months after VIVA LA VIDA, the eight-track PROSPEKT'S MARCH EP serves as a companion piece to the album. Three songs from VIVA LA VIDA are presented in altered form, most notably a version of "Lost!" that features a surprising cameo by hip-hop superstar Jay-Z. The main draw of MARCH is, naturally, the handful of previously unreleased tracks, which include the soaring, stadium-ready "Glass of Water" and the lilting, electronica-tinged "Rainy Day," a tune that bears the mark of producer Brian Eno more than many VIDA-related songs. PROSPEKT'S MARCH is an enjoyable extension of VIDA, making it of particular interest to ardent fans of the record.

Viva La Vida/Prospekt's March
$10.45 While Young Jeezy attributes his moniker, "Snowman," to his high-rolling lifestyle and the diamonds he sports, he could just as easily be referring to the sly coolness with which he delivers his raps. The first member of Boyz N Da Hood to drop a solo album, Young Jeezy comes out of the box sounding like Biggie Smalls with a Southern twist, ready to flow fast and fierce when he must.
A sequence of events juggled the release dates for Boyz N da Hood's first album (issued on Bad Boy) and Young Jeezy's own widely distributed breakout (issued on Def Jam). Boyz N da Hood hit the Top Five the week it was released, and Young Jeezy -- the group's most visible member -- wound up releasing Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101 only a month later. His prominence has come hard and fast (and not without a fair share of controversy) but in truth, he has been active in the underground since the mid-'90s. More a businessman than a traditional MC, his boasts are either deliberately pronounced or mush-mouthed and are often stamped with a druggy "Aaaayy!" Far from the South's best MC, he nonetheless makes up for it with his storytelling ability and obvious desire to inspire hard work, even if the "million dollar dreams" are followed ...

Viva La Vida/Prospekt's March
$16.45 Two hooded figures walk leisurely through downtown Calgary's East Side as the snow begins to accumulate on their shoulders and the last C-train of the night clatters by behind them. After ducking in and out of alleys and circling streets peppered with abandoned houses and empty lots, they finally find what they are looking for; a woman, a prostitute, hopefully the album cover that Lexington and Whatevski have been searching for night after night throughout winter of 2008. She stands at a bus stop wearing an oversized leather jacket and pink track pants, hands stuffed in her pockets, she sways to keep the blood moving on one of the coldest nights of the year. As the two men approach, Lexington pulls his hood back and asks, "hey, would you be down to do a photo with us? We're art students and we're doing this project," he explains, "it's about music and entertainment, it's satire. ...
