Murmur album Product Description
Murmur album by REM was released Nov 24, 2008 on the A&M (USA) label. .R.E.M. 's full-length debut is a landmark album that set the standard for the next 10 years of indie rock. Murmur music CDs The Athens quartet combined Byrdsy, folk-rock guitar jangle with obscurantist lyrics and a post-punk compositional sensibility to create a vibrant new sound that would soon be imitated by every high-school poet with a Rickenbacker guitar.R.E.M. was also one of the first bands to make the long, hard journey from college radio (when it was still college radio) to mainstream acceptance, and managed the difficult task of maintaining its integrity at every step along the way. MURMUR, far from an embryonic debut, shows a fully-formed unit with a strong artistic vision. (It was preceded by two legendary underground releases: The "Radio Free Europe" single--which was re-recorded for MURMUR--and the CHRONIC TOWN EP. ) Producers Mitch Easter and Don Dixon's lofty reputations would have remained intact even if they had never worked on another record after this one. ...See Full Description

| Does it even need to be said? Maybe you caught on with "The One I Love;" maybe "Man on the Moon;" it doesn't matter. Go back and experience R.E.M.'s first album. It sounded like nothing else at the time, and none of the immitators have ever come close since. This is absolute magic - musical transcendence. Every single track. Best album ever? I like "Revolver" by the Beatles, Dylan's "Blonde on Blonde," or "London Calling" by the Clash, but yes, THIS IS IT. By a reviewer (Evansville, IN, USA) This review is for a different format. |
| Beauty, power and passion This is like melody heaven, Beatles meets the Who or vice versa. Peter Buck becomes the new Peter Townshend and Michael Stipe the anti-Daltrey with his back to the audience, as they take on the world with the prettiest amplified guitars and harmonic textured vocals with smart cryptic lyrics that you could ever desire. Tight rythm section, too, makes the whole music come alive and then you realize if you hadn't heard this before, you should have, and here's why REM was a dominating musical force influencing a generation of bands; it started here in this first full CD by making their commitment to creating the most beautiful songs they could imagine, and aren't we lucky they did. | A unique classic rock CD Totally unlike anything you've ever heard before - and that's a good thing. Perhaps REM's finest (and certainly their most thematically cohesive) album. From start to finish its compelling and remarkably unique, with fully realized melodies, diverse sounds, and artistic integrity. | EXCELLENT!!! Good songwriting, original sound By Hunter (Memphis, TN) This review is for a different format. |
| MURMUR is my fav A unique sound discovery that gets better with age. They only sounded like this on murmur and the after release, but earlier made chronic town. A must have! By alberta al (jasper) This review is for a different format. |
