The 2008 reunion of Return to Forever's classic mid-1970s line-up marked an extraordinary event for fans of progressive jazz fusion. The band built their reputation on the mind-boggling chemistry of pianist Chick Corea, bassist Stanley Clarke, drummer Lenny White, and guitarist Al Dimeola. That chemistry proves as explosive as ever 20 years after the group first dazzled audiences with their complex, rock-influenced hybrids. The two-disc set RETURNS features live recordings from Return to Forever's reunion tour, boasting such classics as "Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy" and "The Romantic Warrior." There is, as one might guess, no shortage of stretching out from each of these four jazz luminaries.
Return to Forever: Al di Meola (guitars, acoustic guitar, electric guitar); Chick Corea (piano, keyboards, synthesizer); Stanley Clarke (acoustic bass, upright bass, electric bass, bass guitar); Lenny White (drums, percussion).
Audio Mixers: Buck Snow; Bernie Kirsh.
JazzTimes (p.98) - "[T]his two-CD set delivers all the impossibly tight unisons, cascading streams of 64th notes and virtuosic soloing that longtime RTF fans have come to expect from their heroes." Many Happy Returns This is it! The chronicle of the reunion of the supergroup,Return to Forever, featuring Al Dimeola on guitar,Stanley Clarke on bass,Lenny White on drums and the incomparable Chick Corea on keyboards et al...The live music is alive, vibrant and as essential now as they were 25 years ago! I saw them live here in L.A. on both occasions and they never missed a beat, and each member gets their chance to shine on all of the tried and true numbers by the group including the Romantic Warrior classics...What can I say? Revisit the group and dive right into a part of jazz fusion history and when that history repeats itself see the two cd set as a living gift that keeps on giving...Like the butterfly on the cover they hover over us so free, easy and inviting to let your musical pleasures run free as in Return to Forever...Returns is there to give you that pull, that chance to run wild and free and fly away in your conscious mind and spirit... Great album The album is much more better than the LIVE concert.
The solos, the songs, the whole thing is just perfect.
It will be a 'classic' soon.

Returns
$12.89 Jack Bruce must have enjoyed his 2005 get-together with Cream so much that, when Clapton and Baker were unwilling to continue the collaboration, he rang up Robin Trower to renew the brief power trio fling they had in the mid-'80s. The Trower-Bruce pairing had released only two albums, B.L.T. and Truce, and was dormant since 1982, so this 2007 reunion was somewhat of a continuation of the project, albeit one separated by a quarter century. The results impressively continue where Truce left off, as Bruce brings his distinctive croon/moan to bluesy, riff-oriented tunes dominated by Trower's silvery guitar runs. Gary Husband fills the drum slot adequately if inconspicuously, but his contributions ...
