Hampton surrounds her lead couple with plenty of high school drama and every perspective on teen sex, including a promiscuous siren, a "True Love Waits" Christian cheerleader, and plenty of kids keen on the idea but frightened at the actual prospect. Never heavy-handed or titillating for the sake of it, THE SECRET LIFE OF THE AMERICAN TEENAGER is a kinder and more balanced portrayal of adolescence than TV typically affords.
