Obama album
$19.95 Recorded between 1976 & 2002. Includes liner notes by Rob Kenner.
Can't Stop a Man collects some of Beres Hammond's biggest Jamaican hits, beginning with his first, "One Step Ahead" from 1976, a song produced by Willie Lindo. Moving chronologically through to 2003's sweet and infectious "Dancehall Vibes," which features Big Youth and is one of the highlights here, this two-disc set is a wonderful introduction to this woefully underappreciated singer and writer. With a voice that combines Marvin Gaye's subtle phrasing, Sam Cooke's easy charm, and the soulful power of a David Ruffin, Hammond has a talent for graceful, easy-flowing lovers rock, but he has also effortlessly managed to work light ...
| | Daddy Yankee El Cartel: The Big Boss CD (2007)
Obama CD music
$12.25 When 2004's BARRIO FINO became one of reggaeton's best selling albums, and one of the genre's defining documents, Daddy Yankee was elevated to iconic status. That status was helped by the release of BARRIO FINO EN DIRECTO, a set of live recordings, videos, and new singles released in 2005, but fans had to wait until 2007 for a new studio album. That wait was rewarded with EL CARTEL: THE BIG BOSS, a collection that arguably tops the now-classic BARRIO FINO in ambition and appeal.
At 80 minutes and 21 tracks, EL CARTEL is a sprawling achievement, offering up no shortage of skittering, ...

There are few musicians whose music has indisputably advanced humanity. Reggae figurehead Bob Marley--a songwriter, poet, activist, and visionary--is one of them. The idea that a single-disc collection could represent the depth, breadth, and power of Marley's achievement is far-fetched, but LEGEND makes an excellent attempt. Every single one of its tracks is outstanding, and the artist's different faces--revolutionary ("Get Up Stand Up"), romantic ("Is This Love"), devout Rastafarian ("Buffalo Soldier"), and prophet ("One Love/People Get Ready") are equally represented.
In addition to his moving message of love and unity, Marley is a master songwriter, as the timelessness of songs like "Stir It Up," "I Shot the Sheriff," and the gorgeous, poignant "Redemption Song" proves. Of course, a true sampling of Marley's output would require some early ...
