| | Reverend Schulzz First Division Town CD Reverend Schulzz Discography of CDs
Ask Rich Hopkins which artist he recommends and he says without hesitation “Steve Wynn, Paul Westerberg and Reverend Schulzz” ... A great mark of distinction to Dirk Schulz (Reverend Schulzz). It’s not a surprise since he dedicates his life & passion in communicating his short stories with his guitar. In his hometown, Reverend Schulzz is already a legend! Some people call him the reincarnation” of Bob Dylan!Since 1990 Reverend Schulzz has played with various bands. He has toured all over Germany and is renowned for his live performances. In 1989, he and Andi Kerl, his lifelong friend, founded the band “The Crow”. Within a couple of months the band was “one of four leading independent bands in the Rhein-Main area” (Prinz Magazine). The band has achieved a cult status. They had heavy airplay and a couple of TV shows and live appearances. After two years of relentless touring with artists/bands like Townes van Zandt, Giant Sand (sessions), Dream Syndicate and Yo la tengo, the band released their debut on Twang! Records (in Berlin). Alan Bangs says that their debut is one of the best 10 records of 1991! As a solo artist Reverend Schulzz performed with the Silos, Ian Matthews, and desert rock legend Rich Hopkins (Sidewinder & Sand Rubies)! On the Live-CD “Official blue-rose bootleg series (show in Frankfurt)“ Reverend Schulzz jammed with his friend Rich Hopkins. The outcome was tremendous … Rich Hopkins invited Reverend Schulzz to support him in Germany and USA!Dirk Schulzz’s first record “Mayfly” is a collection of short and simple songs with prosaic lyrics accentuated by incredible melodies. The stories within the songs are coloured with feedback and all kinds of backline sounds & noise. With real simple studio tools an amazing record was created … The nocturnal sounds of Reverend Schulzz has generated TV appearances and radio shows (HR1 “Schwarz-Weiß” spezial Reverend Schulzz show). This createda great promotional buzz for the Reverend. Reviewers & magazines are blown away. The process of the “Mayfly” sequel “First Division Town“ takes more time than expected. Dirk Schulz and producer Falk Bröning work day and night to finish this upcoming masterpiece by working out single guitar sounds & tunes. Although the style of the upcoming Reverend Schulzz record changes, the raw charm of Schulzz’s stories, unique melodies and drunkendramas remain. Reverend Schulzz’s guitar is accompanied by the Birdspookers (Schulzz’s live proven band). Even Schulzz pumps up the volume on his Fender combo, while playing “Four Black Riders” – a small piece of hisautobiography. On his forthcoming record, Reverend Schulzz renewed old vanished classics like the melancholy love ballad ”Bob Dylan’s Nose“. Finally some classics make it from demo tape status to the record! You will notice Reverend Schulzz’s irony and humour increase from record to record but fans should not fear the disappearance of his touching chords and whispering sad, frail lyrics that evoke chills to all who hear.In the upcoming “First Division Town” record you will recognize some classic singer/songwriter influences inspired byAmerican folk, Indie, and Country artists. For example his new song “into the light” is reminiscent of the last Yo La Tengo records. The Reverend’s amazing cover of Velvet Underground’s “Venus in Furs” solidifies his skill and prominence in this industry. There might be just one little difference between Reverend Schulzz and his American idols & heroes. He confesses he’s developed a British inclination with his title track that soccer and love are equal.Equal, in the sense of experiencing the dichotomy of endless joy & happiness on one side and never-ending suffering & ordeal on the other. The mark of charming music is reflected in his new songs containing unpretentious and simple topics – like soccer. Reverend Schulzz is a proud Eintracht Frankfurt (Frankfurt soccer club) fan.
