| | Sick-Leaves Tunnel Vision CD (2008)
Rachmaninoff
$14.79 The Sick-Leaves is singer/songwriter/guitarist Eksteen Jacobsz. It all started with the influences of Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, the Who and the Jesus and Mary Chain. After seeing the Beatles’ anthology on television in ’95 he decided to learn a few chords on guitar and see where it takes him. Six years later a two year stint in London followed with infamous band the Infidels, whose claim to fame was supporting the Libertines one night at the Forum in Kentish Town. This off course never really happened. He returned to SA in 2004 to start his own project, the Sick-Leaves. He hooked up with drummer Warrick Poultney(who played the drums on both Tunnel Vision and Stone the Crow) and what followed was a lot of band practise, gigs, a whirlwind tour here and there and lots of sick leave from work. Writing for the first album, Tunnel Vision, also started in earnest and legendary underground producer Matthew Fink was acquired to produce the album. The album was released in April 2006 through independent label Sheer Music and Sony/ATV took over publishing.Tunnel Vision was nominated for the best alternative album at the 2007 South African Music Awards. The Sick-Leaves played the local live scene extensively during ’06 and ’07 and notable performances included a main stage performance at the ’06 Oppikoppi, support slots for some of the major bands in SA, Studio 1 on MK89, and a live acoustic set on Channel Go Rock and TuksFm.Two singles were play listed on 5Fm : “All these foolish things(I’ve said)” and “Such a Waster”, that went to nr. 11 on the 5FM Top 40. Four singles were submitted to campus radio and all four did very well on their respective charts, with All these foolish things(I’ve said) and Such a Waster reaching nr. 1.Recording for the second album, Stone the Crow, started in September ’07 with Matthew Fink again on production duties. It was released 30 June 2008. The album contains 13 tracks. The first ever Sick-Leaves video will also be released in June for “the Black Disciples” off Stone ...
