The image of a salsa machine that elevates its listeners out of the atmosphere and propels them into ecstatic rhythmic bliss is used repeatedly in the lexicon of salsa, but in recent years there is perhaps no band more befitting of this comparison than Bio Ritmo. In their latest album, Bionico, Bio Ritmo has i‚¨rebuilti‚¨ the vintage salsa sound, enhanced with ambitious, i‚¨bionic,i‚¨ and flawlessly-woven electronic treats that leap out, bursting through our familiar expectations of the genre, and opening new portals of possibilities.
Their music is rooted in the Latin explosions and experimentation of the 60i‚'s and 70i‚'s (they do a wonderful cover of Bobby Valentini‚'s guaracha i‚¨SeguiriƒÂ¡s Criticandoi‚¨ from his 1965 first ever album Ritmo Pai‚' Gozai‚' El Mensajero), yet it constantly reminds us that this, what we are hearing, is something different, something new and refreshing Bionico songs.
