| | Jamie Foxx Intuition CD Jamie Foxx Discography of CDs
Though his singing career has largely taken a back seat to his hugely successful run at the box office (starring in Oscar-winning roles such as 2004's RAY), Jamie Foxx has had his feet planted in both artistic camps since his seldom-heard 1994 debut, PEEP THIS. Continuing his breakout 2005 album UNPREDICTABLE's seductive blend of romantic R&B-balladry and smooth bedroom jams, INTUITION finds Foxx upping the tempos and electronic treatments, with the intent of translating his hit-making formula for club audiences. Enlisting a Grammy-pedigreed cast of producers and guest artists, including T.I., Lil Wayne, and T-Pain, the album benefits from its star-studded rotation of guest spots--serving as able hype-men or nimble rhymesmiths on material that could, otherwise, have been fairly middling relationship fodder. On the lead single, "Just Like Me," Foxx's smooth, synthetic croon rides confidently over an appealingly bouncy melodic hook while T.I.'s roughneck swagger provides gritty contrast. While INTUITION lacks some of the immediate pleasures of Foxx's Kanye West-produced collaboration with Twista, "Slow Jamz," it still packs enough surprises and twists to keep it in good stead with 2008's other big album by a fellow R&B singer-turned-actor, Beyonce.
Intuition is as star-studded as Unpredictable, its collection of collaborators and producers -- including Lil Wayne, T.I., the-Dream, T-Pain, and Ne-Yo -- making it appear more like a release from a singer in his twenties rather than early forties. That's the way most of the album plays out, with a pronounced slant toward upbeat material made for the clubs: bumping beats and Auto-Tune, shorties and Patrón, the works. Since Foxx is a chameleon, he can work the angle without sounding out of place or hopelessly desperate for a big pop hit, yet the effect of the material tends to be fleeting, with punch lines like "I don't rain, girl, I hurricane" and "Let me introduce you to my Grammy family, like Uncle Oscar, Aunt Emmy" far more memorable than the beats. As on Unpredictable, the relatively relaxed and humble songs, from midtempo cuts to ballads, shine brighter. The bittersweet "I Don't Know" tastefully and movingly references Marvin Gaye's "I Want You" within a stripped-down arrangement anchored by kick drums and panning breaths. "Freak'in Me," where Floetry's Marsha Ambrosius provides the album's most valuable guest appearance, should be a late-night radio staple. If not quite as enjoyable as Unpredictable, Foxx's ability and personality make it easy to ride out the sags. [A clean version was also released.] ~ Andy Kellman

$14.64 "Russian Roulette," released weeks prior to Rated R, just hinted at Rihanna's sudden desire to provoke. Even with the realization that it is metaphorical, the song startles with its hesitant gasps, spinning cylinders, and verses that are glacially paced, where a cold piano line and the slight inflections in Rihanna's voice are ...

$8.39 REVIEWSREVIEWER: Grog Mutant / ChickenFish Speaks reviewWow, this release really threw me. I was hoping for something a bit dark and gothic from the cover, but never expected this sound. It’s like Peter Murphy fronting a goth / techno / industrial band. Yeah, it has some elements of Bauhaus, but it really does stretch out into techno aspects and has a faster beat on some tracks. I can’t help but think this is how bands from the early era of goth would sound like after the advent of industrial bands such as Ministry, NIN, My Life with the Thrill Kill Cult and Skinny Puppy. An amazing release, especially if you are a fan of goth or Peter Murphy.-- Grog Mutant (2009) REVIEWER: Jon Ostrow / MicControl Magazine BlogIll be perfectly honest, I don’t typically listen to this type of music, and therefore am not the most educated person on the genre. But that being said, Ill discuss this album to the best of my abilities with what I do know about music as my grounds for analysis….The new solo album by Orpheos, a founding member of Mephisto Odyssey, which is entitled The Mirror With No Reflection, is a collection of heavy, gothic pieces of music which has been layered to perfection and then accented by a mysterious voice. The mixing of the music is key here, which has been done in an interesting way. Although the vocals could be the spotlight of the music (Orpheos has the style and tone that could be viewed as the next David Bowie), it has only been used as a single layer within the dense texture of music. I particularly liked the percussion tracks in each song, which are always heavy but upbeat giving the music a bright sound and energy; a difficult task given the dark nature of the music and lyrics. There has been a clear attention to detail throughout the entire creation of this album. Although I felt that much of this album had a similar feel to it, I found it to be a more positive thing given the style of music. What was lacking in the musical variation has been made up ...

$10.15 Roger Daltrey is the lead singer for The WHO, considered by many to be one of the greatest Rock and Roll bands of all time. This is Roger's first work for children. He says - "The Wheels on the Bus gave me the chance to do something different. It's a great way of introducing music to a whole new generation of kids -- maybe even the grandchildren of the teenagers who grew up listening to The WHO." Laura Hall has written lots of music for kids, including her ...
