Vanishing Point Movie Review 3 Stars for the car----- I saw this movie at the drive in when it was released. It was sad when the producers towed a white 68 Camaro by cable into the dozers.
Barry Newman had stated that they had to return all ( 3 ) Challengers back to the dealership. 2 440 4-speeds and 1 440 auto, which they used to pull the cable.
Good movie for its time. Submitted by raymond.marquis (New Hampshire) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 2 found this helpful. This review is for a different format.

The Point is Still Clear I recall watching this film at a drive-in, back in the day when movies about loners who rejected society's rules were pretty standard in Hollywood, and being wowed by the chase sequences and the solid performances by Barry Newman and Cleavon Little.
I was a little apprehensive when I slipped the DVD into my player that I would find the movie to be dated and even laughable, but, surprise! that wasn't the case.
Newman is terrific as the world-weary hero, Little is amazing as the DJ who tries to be his spiritual guide, and the Challenger that's at the center of the film is as awesome as ever.
True, there are a few moments that show the film's origins in the radical 1960s, but it's to the credit of the director and the actors that overall, very little of it seems dated. Even the soundtrack, filled with contributions from Delaney & Bonnie, still rocks (especially Kim Carnes on the final, gospel-influenced ballad, "Nobody Knows".)
From the opening moments, to the slam-bang finish, this is one movie from the early 1970s that deserves to be seen again. I, for one, am grateful that it hasn't "vanished." Submitted by blade22943 (Tucson, AZ) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.

Vanishing Point DVD Thrills, spills and a handful of pills. It all adds up to one of the most spectacular car chases in motion picture history! Barry Newman stars as Kowalski, the last American hero, who set out to prove that he can drive from Denver to San Francisco in just fifteen hours. Along the way, he meets an old prospector (Dean Jagger), a snake worshipper, a nude woman on a motorcycle, and a blind D.J. (Cleavon Little) who "sees" danger ahead in this super-charged, action-packed adventure!

Vanishing Point film
$23.15 After PRIDE AND PREJUDICE and ATONEMENT, Keira Knightley continues her reign as the queen of the period film with this 18th-century costume drama. The corset-clad actress stars as Georgiana Spenser, the Duchess of Devonshire. With her marriage to the duke (Ralph Fiennes), Georgiana achieves an impressive level of fame as Britons follow both her clothing style and her political advice. But even celebrity and wealth can't act as a salve in her marriage to the boring, boorish duke. When he begins to flaunt his affairs, Georgiana is tempted to return to a teenage crush, Charles Grey (Dominic Cooper of THE HISTORY BOYS), to the anger of her husband and her mother (Charlotte Rampling, SWIMMING POOL).
Fiennes's portrayal of the duke ranks roughly with his Lord Voldemort on a scale of beastly behavior, but the acclaimed actor manages to give him a level of humanity that far surpasses what he deserves. THE DUCHESS ...

$15.55 The official soundtrack to the 2009 hit comic book movie is not your typical collection of hard-and-heavy rock anthems and hip-hop party songs. With the exception of My Chemical Romance's amped-up cover of Bob Dylan's "Desolation Row," it is a sobering blend of standards from days past. Complementing the somber mood and flashback sequences throughout ...

Vanishing Point DVD
$26.59 Released in the same year as Clint Eastwood's DIRTY HARRY (1971), William Friedkin's THE FRENCH CONNECTION marked the beginning of a new era of gritty, urban police dramas. Here, the theme of tough-cop amorality serves a conservative demand for a police-state crackdown on the domestic chaos and subversive youth culture of the Vietnam War period.
The film is based on the true story of two New York City police detectives and their investigation into a French heroin smuggling operation. THE FRENCH CONNECTION is perhaps best known for its infamous, masterfully filmed chase scene (influenced by Peter ...

Still on the trail of heroin kingpin Charnier (Fernando Rey), whom he's dubbed Frog One, Doyle heads for Marseilles. On arrival, his aggressive ugly-American persona alienates French inspector Barthelmy (Bernard Fresson), and his limited ability to speak French doesn't help. Frustrated by Barthelmy's lack of progress, he slips his assigned police protection and goes looking for Frog One on his own. He's soon captured by Charnier's minions, who lock him in a fleabag hotel and shoot him up repeatedly with free samples of their ...

$23.39 Writer-director Richard Kelly's bold debut film is a social satire, a dark comedy, a science fiction time-traveling fantasy, and a suburban nightmare about an extremely intelligent, depressive, self-destructive, narcoleptic, gun-toting, sex-crazed, teenaged arsonist: Donnie Darko (Jake Gyllenhaal). DONNIE DARKO is not your typical teen comedy. But, like GHOST WORLD and RUSHMORE, it uses the trappings of the teen comedy as the entry point for a subversive and trenchant (and also wonderfully entertaining) look at American life. The difference between those films and DONNIE DARKO is that Donnie is an unlikely hero who just might save the world.
It's October 1988, in the Virginia suburb of Middlesex. When Frank, a grotesque giant bunny (possibly ...

Vanishing Point film
$29.69 THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST depicts the last 12 hours of the life of Jesus of Nazareth (Jim Caviezel), beginning with his betrayal by Judas Iscariot (Luca Lionello) and ending with his crucifixion and subsequent resurrection. Directed by Mel Gibson (BRAVEHEART)--who funded the film himself and co-wrote the screenplay--PASSION uses flashbacks to substantiate a handful of pertinent moments in Jesus' life and teachings, such as the Sermon on the Mount and the Last Supper, as well as his relationships with his mother and his disciples. Still, the drama focuses on the seemingly endless torture inflicted upon Jesus by Roman soldiers at the urging of the Jewish crowd ...

$23.39 Based on the best-selling book by H.G. Bissinger, Peter Berg's gritty, powerful drama tells the true story of a small Texas town in which high school football is the only thing that matters. Set in 1988, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS opens on the first day of practice for the Odessa Permian Panthers. Under intense pressure and scrutiny from the town's residents, head coach Gary Gaines (Billy Bob Thornton) nonetheless maintains a calm façade. His star ...
