| | Dio Holy Diver CD (1983)
Invilid CD music
$5.99 Despite recording two hit studio albums with Black Sabbath (1980's HEAVEN AND HELL and 1981's THE MOB RULES) and playing throughout the world to huge crowds, Ronnie James Dio left the band in 1982-the year of his final release with Sabbath, the in-concert LIVE EVIL. As soon as the announcement of his departure was made official, Dio began to put together his first solo project. Joining him were former Rainbow bandmate Jimmy Bain on bass, former Sabbath bandmate Vinny Appice on drums, ex-Sweet Savage guitar hero Vivian Campbell, and newcomer Claude Schnell on keyboards.
HOLY DIVER, Dio's band debut, was issued in 1983. The album quickly became a favorite among headbangers worldwide and eventually earned the group platinum certification. The somewhat upbeat sounding "Rainbow in the Dark" was an MTV favorite, while the plodding title track proved to be another standout. Other album highlights include the opening anthem "Stand Up and Shout," ...
| | Shrinebuilder CD (2009)
Invilid music CDs
$12.79 This album is a sort of summit conference of underground heavy music. Guitarists and vocalists Scott "Wino" Weinrich (the Obsessed, Saint Vitus, Spirit Caravan, the Hidden Hand) and Scott Kelly of Neurosis are grizzled veterans whose hoarse, guttural shouts and instantly recognizable, distorted guitar tones carry the authority of years of hard touring and introspective yet still crushing rock, while bassist Al Cisneros (Sleep, Om) and Melvins drummer Dale Crover shake the earth with their gigantic rhythms. The five tracks were laid down in three days, with some minor overdubs done shortly afterward, and they have the organic feel of jams transformed into cohesive songs through application of the group mind. Wino's usual biker-rock riffage is frequently replaced by a more psychedelic, drifting sound with long sustained notes floating over Cisneros's trance-inducing basslines (Ted Nugent's "Stranglehold" seems like a bigger influence than the Black Sabbath catalog, particularly on "Blind for All to See"), and Crover's tribal pummel is the perfect rhythmic base for these journeys. "Pyramid of the Moon" features Cisneros as vocalist, his nasal monotone recalling Sleep's Holy Mountain album, but his superior band makes this a substantially better proposition. ...

Invilid songs
$7.59 Having achieved their greatest chart success yet with 1982's SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE, in 1984 Judas Priest released the stylistically similar DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH. While it didn't include a song/video as successful as ...VENGEANCE's "You've Got Another Thing Coming," most longtime Priest fans consider DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH one of the band's finest releases of the '80s.
Featuring such Priest instant classics ...
| | Tool Lateralus CD (2001) (Import) Germany
Invilid album
$11.49 "Schism" won the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance.
Approaching Tool's LATERALUS with a casual ear would be a careless endeavor, to say the least. The sheer magnitude of the musical and emotional textures is as heady as it is primal. Standing out as one of the defining traits of the Tool sound is Justin Chancellor's hauntingly melodic bass playing, which often launches into a role reversal with the mountainous guitar work of Adam Jones. The best examples of said phenomenon are found in "The Grudge" and "Reflection." Drummer Danny Carey slips easily into the pocket, fearlessly tackling odd time signatures and tasty percussion like few contemporary metal percussionists (best evidenced in "The Patient.") Lyrically, LATERALUS crawls through the cerebral catacombs of vocalist Maynard James Keenan, exploring themes such as the fallout from failed communication ("Schism") and clutching to past pain in a desperate attempt at control ("Grudge"). LATERALUS ...
| | Kiss Destroyer CD (1976) Remastered
Invilid CD music
$7.75 Digitally remastered by Joseph M. Palmaccio at Sterling Sound, New York, New York.
Before DESTROYER, Kiss' studio albums were only moderate sellers. But the band's concerts were selling out regularly, and 1975's ALIVE! album had gone gold, putting Kiss on the pop map. DESTROYER, on which they teamed with Alice Cooper producer Bob Ezrin, was the breakthrough that finally got Kiss' grandiose rock ideas down on record.
DESTROYER is a chancy, ambitious album. It opens with a radio announcer reporting a teen's death in a car crash, followed by a snippet of "Rock And Roll All Nite" (which had appeared on 1975's DRESSED TO KILL); then the band launches into "Detroit Rock City," an homage to the first city to make them stars. "Great Expectations" features ornate orchestration, a heavenly chorus and a guitar tone that exposes the band's glam-rock ambitions. DESTROYER also includes a ready-made rock anthems ("Shout It Out Loud"), a swipe at manipulative groupies ("Do You Love Me," which is punched up with tubular bells) and a foreboding song about "the lord of the wasteland" that became Gene Simmons' signature tune ("God Of Thunder").
And then there is "Beth," an uncharacteristic ballad, sung and co-written by drummer Peter Criss. ...
