2009 release. From Carlisle, UK, Manatees are masters of seamlessly mixing destructive crushing heaviness with moving passages of eerie atmospherics and introspective ambience. Laced with feedback and noise, Icarus, The Sunclimber is far darker and bleaker than their previous release We Are Going To Track Down And Kill Vintage Claytahh, The Beard Burning Bastard, a recording that saw them collaborate with Oxbow front man Eugene Robinson. Capturing the raw, stripped down intensity of their near deafening live show, this is a record that for which maximum volume is a must. Eyesofsound.
Eleven studio albums into a landmark heavy metal career, Brazil's trailblazing Sepultura have not dialed back their intensity in any discernable fashion. A-LEX is reportedly a concept album based on Anthony Burgess's cult novel, A CLOCKWORK ORANGE, but knowledge of the source material isn't necessary to bang one's head to this beast of an album. Singer Derrick Green may not have erased anyone's memory of founding member Max Cavalera, but his rugged roar suits the fury of the music perfectly. Past flirtations with Brazilian indigenous music and industrial are largely absent from Sepultura's arsenal at this point, with the focus instead on the jugular-tearing thrash of songs like "Moloko Mesto" and "Forceful Behavior." Few bands in metal can establish as formidable a groove as Sepultura, and the dark, down-tuned tunnels dug out by "The Experiment" and "What I Do!" are perfect examples of their craft.
Personnel: Derrick Green (vocals); Andreas Kisser (guitars); Paulo Jr. (bass instrument); Jean Dollabella (drums).
Alternative Press (p.108) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "A-LEX deftly fuses the band's many stylistic phases, from the thrash and death metal that launched their career to later explorations of punk, hardcore, groove metal and even tribal rhythms." Record Collector (magazine) (p.103) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "Much closer to a live, hardcore punk sound than the refined digital crunch of their previous records....As ever with Sepultura, Kisser's slick riffage and the visceral drums are the point." A-Lex Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) ¡¡¡AWESOME!!! The best Sepultura's album since Arise. Forget "Chaos AD" or nu-metal release "Roots"....
A-LEX is a real metal album, from the beggining to the end. Is darker, brutal and insane. Is a perfect mix between THRASH - METALCORE - GROOVE & HARDCORE.
Have amazing riffs and guitar solos,I think that Kisser record the best solos since Arise. Basses are great. Drums sounds technical and powerful, Dolabella demonstrates that is a great musician. But the most important fact here is that Derrick Green sings like a deamon. ¡¡¡GOOD F*CKING JOB MR. GREEN!!!
** "MOLOKO MESTO" - "FORCEFUL BEHAVIOR" - "ENOUGH SAID" & "PARADOX" sounds like Pure Old School Thrash...
** "FILTHY ROT" sounds very technical (drums overall), like Meshuggah or the best side of Fear Factory...
** "WE'VE LOST YOU" & "METAMORPHOSIS" are slowly and sounds very Groove/Hardcore with amazing guitar solos...
** "THE TREATMENT" & "CONFORM" sounds very Groove/Metalcore, have a lot of changes.
** "SADISTIC VALUES" sounds "epic", begins slowly and ends faster (fantastic song)
** "THE EXPERIMENT" & "STRIKE" sounds like melodic metal with amazing vocals...
** "LUDWIG VAN" is an adaptation of Beethoven's 9 Symphony. I never heard a thrash/metalcore/groove band that plays Symphonic music and SEPULTURA play this song like a MASTERS... ¡Say no More!
A-LEX demonstrates that Sepultura don't needs Cavalera Bros.

GREAT. JUST GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 This is, to me, possibly Sepultura's most consistent album since "Arise". The songwriting and textures the reach here is AMAZING my friends. I think they couldn't get to that level of strenght in an album again but here we are. If you're a new-comer to Sepultura you would do great starting your collection right here!!! I have liked almost every record by them but when it comes to consistency this album really outstands!!!
Here's something for every Sepultura fan and more than you would expect.
Every song is great, even "Ludwig Van" which I think is very classy, very mature. They should be very proud of that one. The rest of the songs are incredible metal music, straight to the point. "Strike" (listen to that one), "The Experiment", "Metamorphosis", "Sadistic Values", "What I Do!". NEW SEPULTURA CLASSICS RIGHT THERE. Jean Dolabella is one hell of a drummer (listen to final section of "The Treatment" or "Paradox" or "Moloko Mesto")
No time for the stupid whining. "we want max" "max is Sepultura" OMG!!! Please people get a life!!!!!!!! I don't care about Max no more. I'm sick and tired of all the people denigrating Sepultura's work just beacuse Max left more than 12 years ago!!!! COME ON!! GET OVER IT. Period.
How can you be so miserable to deny the great work on the Derrick Green albums?? I challenge you (use the comment section) to listen to "A-Lex" (especially) or "Nation" or "Against" or "Roorback" or "Dante XXI" an tell me objectively that they can't hold up to ANY other Sepultura album. Here, Listen to "Beneath The Remains" and then right after listen to "A-Lex" (in its entirely of course) an tell me the later sucks. I DEAR YOU!!!!
This is a new age for Sepultura. One age that started with "Dante XXI" and continues with this superb album that tops almost every other record from Sepultura. But without a doubt this is better than "Roots" (way more focused) which I think is an extremely overrated.
If like heavy stuff, this will blow you away!!!!!! Classic Sepultura album!!!! Submitted by piggyalice (Colombia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Unbelievable!! Probably the best Sepultura albums in the last 8 years. Im not going to compare it to "Arise" or "beneath the remains" but A-lex got a solid heaviness and musical component that makes it a high quality heavy metal album. It is clear that Andreas and Derrick were very inspired when producing it. Submitted by Jorge Bugueno (Queensland, Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

A-Lex songs
$16.45 Remember when musicians weren\'t put in a box and were allowed to create their own sound? Remember when artists mixed equal parts BLUES, ROCK, SOUL, FUNK, and GOSPEL to create music that was timeless? Remember when songs were SUPPOSED to be longer than 3 minutes and 15 seconds? Well, remember no more, people! Out of Nashville TN come The Back Alley Saints with a brand of music that has one foot firmly planted in the classrooms of the old school yet with a sound completely relevant today. Built on the firm foundation grooves of drummer Ray Gonzales and bassist Keith Kenyon, The Saints live shows are a back road full of twists and turns... honeysuckle and muddy water...one minute going 100 miles and hour and then, all at once, braking on an unseen dime to take it all in. Guitarist Andy Jones navigates each genre with relative ease providing power and subtlety in heavy doses. Jones\' molasses soaked guitar tone is one of the true high points in the music. Rounding out the lineup is songwriter and lead vocalist Brother Wells. Wells\' vocals are tough to categorize but one thing is for sure...Wells would\'ve felt right at home in Macon, Memphis, or Muscle Shoals. Singing with the fervor of a street corner prophet at times Wells has the ability to turn any ...
| | Finntroll Nattfodd CD (2004) (Import) Bonus CD; United Kingdom
A-Lex album
$26.49 Limited 2008 two CD reissue of the Finnish Metal band's fourth album including the much-celebrated Trollhammaren EP as a bonus disc. Features new sleevenotes and special packaging. Spinefarm.
Finntroll's second album, 2004's Nattfodd, offers yet another confounding manifestation of their weird splicing of black/death metal brutality with Finnish folk music -- more specifically, the quite uppity, polka-like form known as "humppa." Yes, it's all quite daft, to be honest, and we haven't even touched upon the no doubt drunken sextet's fantasy-based lyrics -- sung entirely in Swedish, naturally. Further enhanced by mood-setting sound effects (ocean sounds, ...
