For the past 20 years I've played my guitar and sang my songs for lots of wonderful people. I've played from the Bayou's of Louisiana, towns along the Gulf of Mexico, out west in Arizona, Florida and the Keys, the coast of Georgia, South Carolina, my home in North Carolina and a lot of places in between. It has been great! This experience has been made so special because of the people I've met. The large assortment of folks, one meets in bars and honky-tonks, my fellow fisherman either, commercial or sports fisherman and my musician buddies. What touches my heart most and makes some of the warmest memories are the older people I have met that have been together through thick and thin. The watermen of the shallows, the oyster men, the clammers and the off shore Captains of the big rigs. Time and distance could never destroy their relationships, if anything, it only made them stronger. When I wrote the song, 'The Oysterman' it was around 5:00am in the morning, about the time most fishermen get up or are already hard at work. I thought of Bill Carraway, the Dock master at the ESSO fuel terminal on the Cape Fear River, Wilmington, NC. Grainger Thompson and Chester Canaday, sprang to mind, both being long time watermen on Middle Sound near Wilmington, NC. Also in my heart was my friend Doug King, a commercial king mackerel fisherman from Sebastian, Florida, Roland Hill, an oysterman I had met in Grant, Florida and my young friend, Capt. Danny Brown, my favorite guide in Key Largo, Florida. My friends in Hatteras, NC, Capt. DM Gray, Capt. Rom Whitaker and I will never forget Capt. Ernal Foster of the ALBATROSS FLEET, all from Hatteras, NC. Gone but not forgotten, Capt. Ed Wolfe, ran his boat the WHIPSAW for many years out of Wrightsville Beach, N.C. His son, Capt. Robbie Wolfe, continues his great legacy. All in all, I thank these impeccable seamen and all the wonderful fans and supporters of my music for helping me to bring you 'The Oysterman'. The Oyster Man album
$14.45 After the dark and chilling themes of 2006's BLACK CADILLAC, which saw Rosanne Cash dealing with the deaths of her mother, Vivian Liberto, her father, Johnny Cash, and her stepmother, June Carter Cash -- all of whom passed within a two-year span -- one might assume that her next project would move into an even deeper level of bleakness, but with THE LIST, it's immediately clear that she has instead found a more measured place to stand. It's a lovely and redemptive outing that looks back to go forward. When Cash turned 18, her father, alarmed that his daughter only knew the songs that were getting played on the radio, gave her a list of what he considered 100 essential American songs; Cash kept that list, and now she's drawn on it for this wonderfully nuanced outing that brims with a kind of redemptive timelessness. THE LIST is a renewal and a testament to life, and it belongs to her father as much as it belongs to her, a beautiful restatement of her father's passions, only now, they've become his daughter's treasures, ...
| | Brad Paisley American Saturday Night CD (2009)
The Oyster Man CD music
$12.95 An American saturday night is not an unusual topic for a country song but Brad Paisley's celebration is. Paisley sees a typical weekend night as a cultural collision of French kisses, Italian Ices, Canadian bacon and margaritas, a place where Mexican and Dutch beers chill side by side in a bucket of ice. If he leans too heavily on labels, referring to those beers by brand name, it's merely a reflection of Paisley's uncanny knack for capturing the casual contemporary details of American life at the tail end of the 2000s. It's not just the pile up of iPhones and international video chats on "Welcome to the Future," the first country anthem of the Obama era, it's how he'll pick up prescription for his girl ...
