1 star Not From The Original Masters
Despite the cover stating "From The Original Masters" this disc was remastered from a tape copy. It sounds good, but not at all as good as the earlier long OOP DCC gold disc. Not enough of an upgrade over the Capitol remaster to warrant a recommendation.

3 stars Not as good as the DCC
Here's a few good reasons to pay a bit extra and get the 1993 DCC Gold CD instead of the Audio Fidelity Version: - Better quality artwork, the print quality and paper stock used for the AF are dreadful - Not as many dropouts, the new one at the beginning of "I'm Waiting For The Day" is particularly bad - The DCC is direct from the master tape, the AF is from a copy tape. - The DCC has much more bass

5 stars Excellent
Sound quality on this CD is just perfect. Steve (the remastering engineer) didn't use any compression, noise reduction of EQ. He did a flat transfer of the master tape. Best ever CD version of this album you can ever get (apart from DCC CD).

Pet Sounds
CD $25.89  3.8 stars Top 500
Initially renowned as Bob Dylan's backing group, the Band emerged from the singer's shadow to proclaim a distinctive talent. Drawing upon a musical canon embracing soul, country, folk and rock `n' roll, the quintet created a unique sound that was quintessentially American. Its rustic qualities were enhanced by principle songwriter Robbie Robertson who created vistas suggestive of a pre-industrial age, and as such, captured the restlessness of the late 60s without the need for explicit manifestos. Expressive singing, sublime melodies and telepathic musicianship instils The Band with quality, but its adult themes and perspectives ensure an absolute timelessness. An all-time critics' ...

Although it still contained elements of their two preceding albums' heavy metal garage rock, Alice Cooper's 1972 release SCHOOL'S OUT expanded on the more progressive material of '71s KILLER (i.e., its title track and "Halo of Flies"). The majority of the songs were more sophisticated than ...

Pet Sounds
CD $25.15  4.4 stars Top 500
There are just no two ways about it: if you call yourself a fan of '70s music, you simply must have Linda Ronstadt's HEART LIKE A WHEEL. Like Fleetwood Mac's RUMOURS and The Eagles HOTEL CALIFORNIA, this is a masterpiece that has earned a spot in every record collection that's worth its salt. Ronstadt, the '70s queen of southern California country-rock, is in pristine form. Her angelic voice is flawless as each track flows from one to the other like a gentle stream. Not only do you get the hit "You're No Good" and the Everly Brothers' classic "When Will I Be Loved," but the sorrowful title track and Hank Williams' "I Can't Help It (If I'm Still In Love With ...

Pet Sounds
CD $20.29  4 stars Top 500 Audio Samples
Dismissed by the benighted as the Doors' "pop album," SOFT PARADE is one of the band's most adventurous recordings, utilizing strings and horns without resorting to schlocky over-production and moving far beyond their blues roots. Morrison was fully into his shaman phase by 1969, and his obsession with that image is reflected in the proselytizing air of "Tell All the People," and of course "Shaman's Blues." The album's biggest hit "Touch Me," while easily ...
