2008 album from the mega-selling British boy band. After successfully effecting one of the greatest Pop comebacks in history, Take That release their fifth studio album, the second after their return. Led, as ever, by the songwriting talents of svengali Gary Barlow, this release is similarly epic and romantic to its predecessor (2006's Beautiful World), with songs such as 'What Is Love', 'How Did It Come To This' and the single 'Greatest Day' standing out most. Producer John Shanks returns for a second collaboration with the boys, repeating the success of his work with them on Beautiful World. Universal.

Circus album
$11.19 One of the most well known figures in pop/R&B-leaning jazz, saxophonist David Sanborn had a highly successful stint with the Warner Bros. label from the mid-1970s to the mid-'80s. This collection draws 16 tracks from that period in Sanborn's career, with songs ranging from the funky "Chicago Song" to the smooth "Lesley Ann" to the spare, delicate "Lotus Blossom." For listeners whose only connection to jazz is via Kenny G, this Sanborn sampler is the next logical step.

| | Dale Watson Truckin' Sessions CD (1998)
Circus CD music
$10.19 Watson's dedication to country's roots is well documented, but his in-your-face stance toward mainstream country playlists hasn't gained him any footage on the airwaves. That's a damned shame. Following three straight pillar-to-post winners on Hightone Records--CHEATIN' HEART ATTACK, BLESSED OR DAMNED, and I HATE THESE SONGS--hard-core country flag-waver Watson self-released this redline salute to 18-wheel jockeys. Koch International subsequently picked up the ...
| | Dazz Band 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection CD (2001)
Circus music CDs
$6.79 Originally released on Motown Records. Includes liner notes by A. Scott Galloway.
An 11-song snapshot of the Dazz Band's Motown stint that includes the not-often-featured "To the Roof," whose origins date back to "Take It to the Woof" by Cleveland, OH-based funk band Morning Maniac led by ex-Dazz Band member Kenny Pettus who's the lead voice on the Earth, Wind and Fire-ish "I Might As Well Forget About Loving You." But other than that, there are no surprises, just straight-ahead digitally remastered Dazz Band blasts that blow you away in CD format ("Let It Whip"'s bassline is hypnotizing). For lovers, "Invitation to Love" and "Knock, ...

Michael Stipe, Grant Lee Phillips, Horace Andy, Revetti Saklar (vocals); Michael Franti (spoken vocals); Robbie Williams (guitar).
The global village shrinks down to a single neighborhood in this ambitious project. Rhythm is the road that runs through it all, drawing residents from most of the corners of the world; odd, though, that with legions gathered from India, Africa, New Zealand, Europe, and the U.S., no one from South or Latin America, or from any Native American cultures, joined the party. Even so, producers Duncan Bridgeman and Jamie Catto accomplish a miracle of sorts by traveling to far-flung places and recording dozens of singers and musicians. Each artist contributes parts to one or another song, which are subsequently arranged into often-dazzling pastiches on frameworks of sensuous rhythm. The results are quite extraordinary: On "The Way You Dream" Michael Stipe's vocal ...
