(5 Customer Reviews)
Memphis-based alternative metal outfit Saliva has been turning out post grunge-inspired rock since their 1997 debut, and 2008's CINCO DIABLO finds them still keeping the flame. But while CINCO DIABLO won't disappoint fans of Saliva's earlier work, there are also touches of adult alternative ("How Could You"), rap-rock ("Family Reunion"), and Southern boogie-rock ("Southern Girls") for variety. Saliva maintain their hard edge, yet still manage to expand their sonic palette on this tight, well-produced effort.
Personnel: Josey Scott (vocals); Wayne Swinny (guitar, background vocals); Jonathan Montoya (guitar); Dave Novotny (bass guitar, background vocals); Paul Crosby (drums).
Saliva Cinco Diablo Songs Cinco Diablo Music Review Average Rating: (3.6 out of 5 stars) Back Into Your System is their best so you get Cinco Diablo? If you can keep the formula of "Back into Your System" running as far as Island Records wants them kept on their roster, "Blood Stained Love Story" proves where things will only go where flair, drama, stories go. If collaborating with southern acts is any indication, that will keeps things afloat esp with the likes of Shinedown and 3 Doors Down is concerned. Songcraft has always been a cliche when nu-metal was around and you don't have it anymore cause it won't be back anytime soon. It's just alt-metal from here. A Little Off from BSLS Not quite as strong as Blood Stained Love Story which I believe is there best CD!, but still a solid effort. Southern Girls and So Long are two fantastic tracks on this disk. The cd though seems to imporve with each listen which is good sign that it will get continue play in my player.
The producer Bob Marlette has the band going in the right direction. Submitted by D3 (Annapolis, MD) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Little letdown I am a big Saliva fan, however Cinco Diablo left me disappointed. Family Reunion sounded so much like other songs and they came up short on number of tracks. The songs were typical Saliva and a good mix of hard hitting and radio friendly songs, but not anyway close to their best work. Seemed rushed! Better luck next time. Still a fan! Okay I bought this cd the day it came out, hoping it would make up for their disaster cd blood stained love story. After listining to it I wasn't impressed. Family Reunion sounds very similiar to Ladies and Gentleman with different lyrics. I really like when a band can make great softer songs just as well as they can harder song. This cd is short with only 10 songs lasting about 37 minutes. That is the first thing I didn't like. A song simply being harder for the sake of being harder doesn't make a good song. The rockier songs get redundant with nothing really interesting to keep you listing. A few songs are good, but the cd as a whole just isn't that good. This is Saliva's second cd in a row that I didn't like. Survival of the Sickest is the best saliva cd. Submitted by drumdogcash (New Wilmington PA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Little Willie Littlefield Going Back To Kay Cee CD (1995) (Import) United Kingdom
Cinco Diablo music CDs
$16.85 Littlefield's stint with Federal was brief (1952-1954), and not nearly as commercially successful as his time with Modern prior to that. Nonetheless he did a good amount of recording in that period, from which 19 tracks emerged to form this CD retrospective of his Federal years. It, together with Ace's slightly more extensive overview of Littlefield's Modern era, Kat on the Keys, forms a satisfying document of his most productive years. The Modern stuff is a little more well-known, and though it's a close call as to which disc is better (not that you can't get both), the nod might go to Going Back to Kay Cee by a whisker, if only for the inclusion of Littlefield's most famous recording, the 1953 single "K.C. Lovin'." This is the original model for the song that would be adapted into Wilbert Harrison's number one hit "Kansas City" and become a rock standard. Of course Federal wanted to milk that cow as much as it could, which is why a take of "K.C. Lovin'" was overdubbed with rockier instrumentation and retitled ...
| | Countdown Quartet Sadlack's Stomp CD (2002)
Cinco Diablo songs
$14.69 After shifting personnel on its first two releases, Raleigh, NC's Countdown Quartet finally reflects its name by encompassing just four members. Trombonist/bandleader Dave Wright, assisted by guest horn players, keeps the brass bopping on nearly all these tunes. The resulting eclectic sound encompasses classic ska ("Mr. Tippy"), straight-ahead Dixieland jazz (the title track, where Je Widenhouse's trumpet sounds spookily like Louis Armstrong's), Caribbean rhythms ("Mardi Gras in Gloucester"), and a funky New Orleans second-line groove that lies at the core ("Wildcat"). The nearly seven-minute "Joseph" tells the biblical ...
| | Brian Band Odell Rise Above It All CD (2007)
Cinco Diablo album
$16.45 Brian Odell (guitar and lead vocals)Brian first picked up a guitar in the fall of 1995 during his sophomore year of High School. He had been actively participating in school choirs since grade school but this was his first experience with an instrument. With no previous experience and only minimal instruction from friends, Odell has become a self-taught guitar wonder boy. He does not read nor write music in the traditional sense, instead uses tablature, a graphical representation of the guitar strings and frets. The music comes from his soul, with honest lyrics that strike deep. “Whatever song I’m singing . . . I try to remember the feelings I had when I was writing it . . . I try to bring those emotions out in my performance”. With influences ranging from Dave Matthews Band to Green Day and James Taylor to Jack Johnson, Odell has created a musical lifestyle and future for himself. Brian has recorded two independent CDs and has sold a little over 2000 to date. His song topics include love, heartbreak, internal struggle and good times with friends. With his laid-back, trusting and sensitive manner he presents a serious and engaging stage presence that continues to capture each audience he finds himself performing for.Gregg Ritchie (upright bass, electric bass, backing vocals)Gregg has been playing bass since he was 9 years old, beginning in the strings program in the Lake Oswego schools. Being trained in classical music all his life, he performed overseas with the Portland Youth Philharmonic then went on to study bass at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Since then he’s been playing as a freelance bassist ...
