Soundtrack English; Soundtrack French; English Subtitles; Dolby Digital 5.1 Re; Sensor Matic; CD Included In Adrian Lyne's FLASHDANCE, a young woman, Alex (Jennifer Beals), strives to achieve success as a classical dancer, but economic forces require her to work as a welder by day and an exotic dancer by night. Standing in her way is an abundance of profound social obstacles, not the least of which is her boss at the welding factory, Nick (Michael Nouri), who is also her boyfriend. Alex strives to be accepted into a prestigious ballet academy, and she is furious when she realizes that her boyfriend might be pulling strings for her behind the scenes. Along the road to self-discovery and independence, Alex also struggles to accept love, come to terms with her own stubbornness, and find the inner strength to turn her lofty dreams into reality.
Edited for maximum rhythmic impact, FLASHDANCE is full of glistening bodies and metallic surfaces, powered by Giorgio Moroder's throbbing music and one hit song after another: Michael Sembello's "Maniac," Karen Karmen's "Manhunt," and, notably, Irene Cara's Oscar-winning theme song, "Flashdance...What a Feeling." FLASHDANCE marks the first coproduction between Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson, who geared the film toward the MTV generation. Theatrical release: April 15, 1983.
FLASHDANCE was never a "number one" movie, but it ran for months, its string of hit songs keeping it in the public eye. Eventually, it earned $95 million in theaters in the U.S.
Adrian Lyne had doubts about FLASHDANCE; he was asked eight times before he agreed to direct the movie.
Before FLASHDANCE was filmed, Jerry Bruckheimer and screenwriter Joe Eszterhaus searched for bars with "flashdancers." The pair returned with the news that there were none. Undaunted, the filmmakers made one up for their story.
French dancer Marine Jahan was the uncredited double who performed most of Jennifer Beals's dances in FLASHDANCE. Flashdance Quotes/Excerpts: "Don't you understand? You give up your dream, you die."--Nick Hurley (Michael Nouri) to Alex (Jennifer Beals) Flashdance Reviews: "...Beals is a radiant, doe-eyed young beauty..."

I loved it!!!!!!! I love movies where a person's dream comes true. A fantastic story mixed memorable music.
It is important in a story line to have characters the viewer can identify with. You may not be able to identify with the characters in Flashdance, but many can identify with the feeling of winning in the end. Submitted by Joel (Upstate, New York) Was This Review Helpful? Not that great For some reason Flashdance is viewed as a classic, but other than the climactic dance sequence the movie, in my opinion, is a flop. Submitted by Amonre429 (Brooklyn, NY, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.

$9.69 WWII. The "Blue Max", a coveted medal for achievement in flying, is ruthlessly sought by Peppard, a poor-boy German soldier who climbs out of the trenches and into the aristocratic air force. He is met with prejudice by the other contestants, wealthy snobs who look down upon his low economic stature. When he claims the title, he earns the respect of the General and the General's wife (Andress), who wants to repay him in ways that the General might not appreciate. Peppard, on the other hand, does. Fantastic aerial combat highlights the film, although the scenes between the two lovers don't hurt matters much.

Flashdance video
$9.69 This relatively little-known film is widely hailed by fans of the macabre. Truly ahead of its time, NIGHTMARE ALLEY is set in the gritty, surrealistic world of traveling carnivals, where eccentric people of all possible varieties interact on a daily basis. In a departure from his usual roles as the Hollywood leading man, handsome Tyrone Power plays a morally questionable circus apprentice determined to climb the carnival ladder no matter what the price. Powers shows immense range in what was arguably his finest role ever as the sometimes unrecognizably scruffy circus man with a liking for the bottle. Director Edmund Goulding (DARK VICTORY) gives the carnival setting a dark, somber feel that contradicts the film's more upbeat ending. In spite of this ending tacked on by the studio system, NIGHTMARE ALLEY remains with the viewer even after it's over, haunting them with its bleak images and melancholy mood.
Tyrone Power and Joan Blondell star. A handsome carnival newcomer sets out to become a con artist clairvoyant.

$19.29 Japanese auteur Kinji Fukasaku examines the trauma of World War II in his home country in the docu-drama UNDER THE FLAG OF THE RISING SUN (GUNKI HATAMEKU MOTONI). Taking his cue from HIROSHIMA, MON AMOUR, Fukasaku combines a fictional drama with documentary segments illustrating and reinforcing the film's central themes. Mrs. Togashi (Sachiko Hidari) had a husband who was court martialed and executed in the final days of World War II, and as a result receives no pension from the government. Many years on, the army will still not tell her the circumstances of his death, so she embarks on an investigation of her own. Conducting interviews with a number of her husband's former comrades, she discovers a RASHOMON-like story of both heroism and villainy, bravery and cowardice. Suggesting that perhaps the truth is lost in the chaos of wartime, UNDER THE FLAG OF THE RISING SUN is a powerful examination of a terrible moment in Japanese history.
A war widow is determined to clear the name of her husband who was executed for desertion.

Flashdance review
$11.15 Twin filmmakers Danny and Oxide Pang's creepy 2003 feature THE EYE earned them enough kudos to make the leap to Hollywood, and their first effort is the creepy chiller THE MESSENGERS. A Chicago-based family comprised of Roy (Dylan McDermott), his wife, Denise (Penelope Ann Miller), their teenage daughter, Jess (Kristen Stewart), and young son, Ben (played by twins Evan and Theodore Turner) try to put the hard times behind them with a move to a picturesque farmhouse in North Dakota. Jess quickly becomes convinced that the house is haunted after some peculiar occurrences while she's alone there with young Ben. But Ben can't articulate what he's seen, and Jess's story is met with skepticism by her parents. It soon becomes apparent that past family tensions are slowly boiling to the surface. Meanwhile, the ghosts keep coming, and the Pang brothers never keep their audience waiting for long before another nerve-jangling scene shudders into view. But as the ghosts torment their new residents, Jess does a little research on the old farmhouse and discovers a few secrets that may just hold the key to why this is all happening. Packed full of CGI effects and a few moments that may cause a jump or two, THE MESSENGERS is a horror movie aimed at a young audience and not horror aficionados, as indicated by its PG-13 rating.
