Born Donahue Dixon and raised on the island of Jamaica, Red Summer’s taste for music came at an early age by way of his mother's modest collection of Jamaican records (mento, kumina, bluebeat, ska, dub, reggae, and dancehall). Every Saturday once chores were completed, Summer and his siblings were treated to hearing their voices echo through the stereo speakers over a pair of microphones. This excitement would only last for a short moment before his mother would get annoyed and stash the microphones away. It was these sessions that began to fuel the musical thirst within Red Summer. Musical DevelopmentAt the age of nine, Red Summer and his family immigrated to the United States. The move afforded him the opportunity to study music and learn several instruments including the drums, timpani, and keyboards.
