$11.09 Brotha Rock was born in 1973 in San Diego California. He was raised in Southeast San Diego with his brother, and two sisters, by his mother Beverly Singleton. At the age of 4 he began to beat on pots and pans until he got his first drum set at the age of 6 years old. He began public performances in a first grade school production. His biggest influence was his mother who was also a poet and iridologist; who he would regard in these words, 'She is my inspiration.'As a teen, Rock was known as 'Shamrock' from the Lincoln Park Bloods in Southeast San Diego. At the age of 16 he was locked up for stabbing a rival gang member. When he was released from jail, gang violence nearly took his families life, in retaliation of a gang fight, when his mother's home was shot up with an M-16 in 1989. By the time he was 18 he achieved what is called 'OG' status. By 19 he gradually left the street life when his daughter was born. In regards to his daughter's birth, he has stated 'She saved my life. 'EducationBrotha Rock attended Baker Elementary, a Music Conservatory, and The School of Creative and Performing Arts (O'Farrell SCPA) in San Diego CA. , where he studied percussion instruments. In both schools he played for various school- related venues. Later in 1998, Rock had a spiritual identity crisis which led him on a spiritual journey seeking Universal Truth. During this time he studied the major religions of the world for over a decade. In 2005, he received a PHD in Religious Philosophy through Universal Life Church, in Modesto CA. Throughout the course of his studies he discovered he was suffering from depression. After going through treatment, along with intense studies, he overcame the affects of depression. And from this arose within him a new outlook on spirituality and its connection to reality. As his spirituality matured he began recording his debut Album, *2007 C. E, released November 2, 2008. As a part of his therapy, he also authored and published a book entitled 'Tree of Life', due to hit stores in 2009, which chronicles his spiritual journey and explains the symbolism of the*Album cover. In regards to his faith he says, 'I am a Child of God, and My Religion is Love, and the Way of God is balance, not extremes. ' MusicBrotha Rock started rapping at the age of 12 years old, inspired by his favorites, such as; Run DMC, Eric B & Rakim, KRS1, X-Clan, and many more. He also loves R&B greats such as; Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson, Keith Sweat, and more modern greats such as R-Kelly. Rock describes his music as Positive Gangsta MusicĀ®, because it reflects his ties to the streets balanced with his spirituality or what he would call 'Reality in ...

$12.65 Coolout keeps it real on his latest, The Long GoodbyeBy Sean L. Maloney / Nashville ScenePublished on February 18, 2009 at 10:26amChristopher "Coolout" Davis may be a fixture on the local DJ circuit and one of the go-to guys for a good time on a Saturday night, but he is first and foremost a musician. Well, really he's better defined as rapper-producer-musician, a hyphenated hip-hop auteur, a real-deal renaissance man with a self-contained recording rig. After 10 years behind the turntables and gigs at almost 40 different Davidson County nightclubs, Coolout is about as close to a household name as a local urban artist is bound to be in this "country" town. He has rocked more clubs than most can name and bounced more booties than most would care to count. But like many independent artists in this town, he would prefer not to be defined by his day job.The Long Goodbye, Coolout's latest self-released album, is a futuristic slab of rap pragmatism for people who prefer an intellectual challenge to a fistfight in the parking lot. Built around a core of Fender Rhodes and dub-style delay and decay, The Long Goodbye stands out as Nashville's only contribution to next-school hip-hop for 2009. Goodbye is the most au courant genre piece in a scene that's-at best-a step or two behind the national learning curve. Where as most of the rap in this city can be lumped into the "tediously tacky crunk retreads," "dudes that pretend they're Kanye" or " '90s New York nostalgics" categories, Coolout delivers a mature, modern set of songs that have more in common with fringe-dwelling UK producers like Quantic and Bonobo than Gangsta Grillz Vol. 438, 972 or secondhand Roc Raida tapes. Synthesizers flow in and out of the soundscape like oceans on an alien planet, ebbing over a bedrock of funky bass lines, understated percussion and kick drums that boom in all the right places, slipping occasionally into jazzy glitch-tronica on songs like "Over Your Head." The tracks feel wide open, embracing a dynamic sense that is missing from from the over-compressed world of contemporary music. Think about "Live Your Life," the T.I./Rihanna juggernaut that's all over the radio (it should be on the Beat Jamz right...about...now) with its cluttered, screechy Scandinavian synths and its blown-out binary code. Now imagine if ...
