| | Boston Greatest Hits CD Boston Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Though Boston's GREATEST HITS package does a fine job of compiling the AOR staple's most-well known tracks ("More Than a Feeling," "Don't Look Back," "Rock & Roll Band"), collectors will want to own this album for the three new songs. "Higher Power" adds a metallic, Blue Oyster Cult-ish spooky edge to the classic Boston formula while "Tell Me" recalls the classic ballad "Amanda." The standout, however, is the multi-layered take on "The Star Spangled Banner," which shows Tom Scholz can Boston-ify even the most well-worn chestnuts.
When Boston's self-titled debut landed in the Top 5 in 1976, their combination of powerful lead and background vocals, up-front guitars and slick production made the world safe for corporate rock. Twenty years hence, Boston mastermind/studio geek Tom Scholz has been releasing records and touring on an average of once every seven years, going through a handful of vocalists and engaging in major court battles for recording freedom. All this leads up to the GREATEST HITS package, a mixture of old and new Boston that is like a time capsule of '70s rock riffs. An Up-With-People message found in the newer material ties in with Scholz's support of PETA, evidenced by pictures of photogenic animals dotting the CD booklet.
Contains previously unreleased material.
Recorded at Foxglove Studios, Watertown, Massachusettes in winter 1975; Capitol Studios, Hollywood, California; The Record Plant, Los Angeles, California in spring 1976.

Greatest Hits album
$6.75 This 1999 reissue contains three bonus tracks not included on the original release.
Between the early 1970s and early '80s, Kansas made a long musical journey, starting out as complex prog-rock merchants, deeply indebted to the technically dazzling, epic works of Yes, Genesis, and Emerson, Lake & Palmer. A decade on, the band had trimmed its sound to the bare bones, pounding out relatively straightforward, hard-edged AOR. THE BEST OF KANSAS ably illustrates how Kansas got from one extreme to the other. "The Wall" and "Closet Chronicles," for instance, illustrate the proggier side of the group, unafraid to experiment. The ideal middle ground occupied by the churning rocker "Carry On Wayward Son" and the peppy, melodic "Point of Know Return" represents the commercial and artistic apex of the band. The relentless, pile-driver attack of the early-'80s hit "Fight Fire with Fire" finds the former art-rockers closer in spirit to Def Leppard than to King Crimson. You couldn't ask for more variety or a more comprehensive selection from a single-disc collection ...
| | Led Zeppelin - DVD DVDs (2003)
Greatest Hits CD music
$22.75 Very few Led Zeppelin performances were caught on camera during the band's life-span, but the footage that has been preserved for posterity is collected on this release. With a running time of over five-and-a-half hours, this is the definitive word on Zep's global stage-straddling performances. The footage is taken from London's Royal ...
| | Very Best Of The Eagles CDs (1994) Remastered; Digipak
Greatest Hits music CDs
$20.25 THE VERY BEST OF includes a 46-page booklet with pictures and track information.
"Hole In The World" was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.
This 1994 greatest hits package (released in anticipation of the band's wildly successful reunion tour and album) supplants THEIR GREATEST HITS 1971-1975. It adds seven songs, but unfortunately deletes "Already Gone," one of their best rockers.
What's most interesting about THE VERY BEST OF THE EAGLES - apart from the presence of obviously classic songs like "Take It Easy" and "Hotel California" - is that it demonstrates that the band's esthetic was fully formed from day one. Despite the fact that the songs here span nearly a decade, listening to them back to back you could almost believe they were the product of one marathon recording session.
The Eagles' founders Don Henley and Glenn Frey were forthright in their desire to bring then-emerging country rock to new heights of commercial success. Formed in Los Angeles in 1971, they learned from their observations of the scene around them, and subsequently took their music to the top of the charts. They stayed there ...
| | Guns N' Roses Greatest Hits CD (2004) Remastered; Digipak
Greatest Hits songs
$10.39 Hard-rock juggernauts Guns 'N' Roses arrived as rock & roll saviors in a dark time of generic hair metal and bloated pop. With only five studio albums to draw from (one being the all-covers SPAGHETTI INCIDENT), nearly a third of the material on GREATEST HITS is unsurprisingly devoted to other people's songs. Inclusions range from a dramatic version of Bob Dylan's "Knockin' On Heavens ...

1976's A NEW WORLD RECORD is both a classic of commercial '70s pop and an archetypal ELO album. From the outer-space synths and rich orchestrations that open the album to Jeff Lynne's meticulous production and Beatlesque melodies, A NEW WORLD RECORD is magnificent ear candy. Both ambitious enough to appeal to "serious" rock fans and ultra-catchy enough to sound terrific on Top 40 radio (the plaintively gorgeous, McCartney-like "Telephone Line" and the anthemic "Livin' Thing" were well-deserved smashes), ELO was one of the few '70s bands whose appeal covered both the FM and AM spectrums. The album even resurrects "Do Ya," a classic single by Lynne's former band, the Move, in a splashy new version.
The next ELO album, 1977's elaborate double-album OUT OF THIS WORLD, was probably the band's commercial high point, but A NEW WORLD RECORD is the group's artistic high-water mark.
Jeff Lynne reportedly regards this album and its follow-up, Out of the Blue, as the high points in the band's history. One might be better off opting for A New World Record over its successor, however, as a ...
| | Ricky Duran Worldwide CD (2008)
Greatest Hits music CDs
$16.39 Ricky Duran was born in Grafton Massachusetts. He grew up listening to his father sing and play popular American and Spanish songs of the ages. He took a strong interest in music, specifically guitar and vocals, at the age of six. His father would teach him songs and Ricky practiced until he was satisfied with his performance. Ricky explored different cultures and styles of music from pop, reggae, hip-hop, and R&B, to rock, jazz, latin, blues, and psychedelic. Ricky found his voice most pronounced in the blues and psychedelic realm, listening to records of his favorite artists among them Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton and Albert King. Ricky would listen to the songs for weeks on end until he could play them practically note for note. He performed at parties for friends and family, but at the age of ten when he had his first taste of performing for bigger audiences he was driven to another level of determination. It was then that he discovered the power of communication through music. At the age of twelve, he and his father decided to invest their time on creating a recording studio to put Ricky on his first record. As he recorded cover songs of artists such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Green day, Blink 182, and Jimi Hendrix, he began working on original compositions for his first album. He completed his cover album but would not release it because of changes in musical direction. Ricky’s original compositions began to take a unique shape. Although influences can be heard in his songs, he has his own image and style of sound. Ricky became recognized and respected within his community as a full out artist. He played gigs in and around his town, and would sit in with other musicians whenever he had the chance, while in high school his vision was that of a three-piece group both heavy and dynamic. After graduating from Grafton High, Ricky had no intention of doing anything ...
