Live In Nashville album
$13.19 When an artist wants to be truly harsh and blistering, density can be a highly effective tool. In avant-garde jazz, density is the thing that makes Charles Gayle, Albert Ayler, and post-1964 John Coltrane much harsher than AACM icons like Anthony Braxton and Roscoe Mitchell -- and in metal, density is what gives Slayer's God Hates Us All a claustrophobic quality that you don't get from the old-school fantasy metal of Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Ronnie James Dio, and Black Sabbath. Density is a big part of what Demon Hunter does on this self-titled debut album; when the alternative ...

Live In Nashville CD music
$8.49 Recorded between 1984 & 2003. Includes liner notes by Michael Sweet.
Throughout rock history, all great bands spawn quite a bit of similar-sounding offspring -- and the mighty Van Halen were no different. Throughout the '80s, a plethora of VH disciples appeared on the scene -- many of which happened to also hail from the same locale, Hollywood. Musically, Stryper were quite similar to the Van Halen boys, but vocally, singer Michael Sweet was more a kin to Styx's Dennis DeYoung. The pairing of both styles won Stryper a large following, and for a stretch of several years, scored several MTV hits, all of which are neatly compiled on ...

Live In Nashville music CDs
$12.29 Stylistically, Demon Hunter's second album Summer of Darkness is quite similar to the alternative metal band's self-titled debut album of 2002; the headbangers still get their points across with an effective combination of haunting, intricate melodies and sledgehammer brutality. ...

| | Archive From 1959: The Billy Childish Story CDs (2009)
Live In Nashville CD music
$13.85 In an era when a band is considered unusually prolific if they release an album every 18 months, Billy Childish is a glorious anomaly, a man who believes in the power of music in its raw, pure state and isn't afraid to roll tape and capture the moment when the inspiration strikes. Childish's muse is a frequent enough visitor that he's released nearly 120 albums since his first band, the Pop Rivets, cut their debut LP in 1979, and what's more surprising than the fact he's made so many records is that most of them fall somewhere between pretty good and pretty great. In 1991, Sub Pop took up the daunting task of assembling a Billy Childish career anthology with the two-CD set I Am the Billy Childish, which pulled one track each from the 50 albums Childish had put out to date; since then, the man's body of work has continued to expand at a feverish pace, and Archive from 1959: The Billy Childish Story by necessity takes a different approach. Instead of summarizing the totality of Childish's catalog of recorded work, Archive from 1959 is an introduction to his rock & roll music, ignoring for the time being his dabblings in blues, folk, and spoken word. Archive from 1959 doesn't bother itself with a chronological sequence of Childish's recordings, as this set jumps between decades and the man's various groups (Thee Milkshakes, Thee Mighty Caesars, Thee Headcoats, Thee Buff Medways, the Musicians of the British Empire and still more), but his approach hasn't changed very much with the years -- Childish still bashes away at his cheap guitar like some unholy fusion of the Sonics, Link Wray, and the Who in their early amphetamine overdrive period, he still can throw ...
