Although it still contained elements of their two preceding albums' heavy metal garage rock, Alice Cooper's 1972 release SCHOOL'S OUT expanded on the more progressive material of '71s KILLER (i.e., its title track and "Halo of Flies"). The majority of the songs were more sophisticated than the group's past work, with greater use of dynamics. The band was working under tight a deadline to complete the album, but it's certainly no half-hearted rush job--it was their third powerful release in a row, and their first top 10 hit (peaking at #2 on the U.S. album charts).
The title song, a top ten single, is a great, fist-pumping rock & roll anthem. By merging one of the most identifiable and memorable guitar riffs ever (courtesy of the late Glen Buxton) with snide lyrics and a sing-along chorus, the song was a punk-metal masterpiece. While the album's remaining songs may not be as immediately familiar, many a gem can be found. "My Stars," "Luney Tune," "Alma Mater," and "Gutter Cat Vs. the Jets" are all underrated Cooper classics, the latter even containing snippets of musical themes from WEST SIDE STORY!
Recorded at the Record Plant, New York and at Alice Cooper Mansion, Connecticut.

The music in this CD is definitely worth for five stars but this reissue is absolutely not worth for the extra cost. It sounds even worse than the original un-remastered CD. And there is no additional sleeve notes nor anything else special. Stick with the regular edition. Submitted by Lasse (Finland) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 13 of 26 found this helpful.
Not bad, but not great either This remaster sounds ok, but I doubt the original masters were used. Although it sounds quite good and better than the standard CD, it does still have some hardness and sibilance on the top end and has somewhat of the typical digital sheen to it, unlike, say, MFSL remasterings that sound very analog. Excellent! I have US and German vinyl as well as various CDs of this album. This is the best sounding CD or LP by far! I have never heard this album sound so good. I don't know who this "Mr. Hoffman" person is so I had to look at the CD. Who cares? Obviously these people have another agenda than simply commenting on the music.

When you're a jet... I seriously doubt that the original version of this sounds as good or better than the gold disc. I know several people who refuse to re-purchase anything regardless of the reason. They are perfectly happy with a third generation master CD, where they have to amp it 3/4th of the ways up to hear everything. I for one can't justify doing that. I'm as giddy as a child when a favorite album is re-released with new packaging & sound. These Alice Cooper gold discs should make any Alice fan proud. When you're a Jet... Had the original LP with a pair of panties & the album folded out like an old school desk with the ink well etc. & the old WB green record label. Great album, although have recently gone back & discovered Easy Action & Pretties for You. It's a shame Pretties wasn't produced properly. Also, I'm glad David Briggs didn't like these guys because it worked on Easy Action. Anyhow, anything remastered by Steve Hoffman on Audio Fidelity 24 Carat Gold Disk kicks for sure. I have the first Bad Co. & Montrose gold discs & can't say enough about them. Submitted by bill (rogers, ar usa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 4 of 10 found this helpful.

School's Out album
$15.79 After establishing itself as a hard-rock giant, thanks to endless touring and the release of such milestone records as MACHINE HEAD and IN ROCK, Deep Purple was in a state of turmoil when it went into the studio to record 1972's WHO DO WE THINK WE ARE? Despite all the infighting, the band pulled together long enough to record seven tracks that only bolstered the band's reputation.
The best-known song, "Woman From Tokyo," boasted a riff as memorable as the one that defined "Smoke on the Water" and was later admitted by Ritchie Blackmore to have been cribbed from Eric Clapton's "Cat Squirrel." Although ...
| | Band CD (1969) Gold; Remastered
School's Out CD music
$25.65 Initially renowned as Bob Dylan's backing group, the Band emerged from the singer's shadow to proclaim a distinctive talent. Drawing upon a musical canon embracing soul, country, folk and rock `n' roll, the quintet created a unique sound that was quintessentially American. Its rustic qualities were enhanced by principle songwriter Robbie Robertson who created vistas suggestive of a pre-industrial age, and as such, captured the restlessness of the late 60s without the need for explicit manifestos. Expressive singing, sublime melodies and telepathic musicianship instils The Band with quality, but its adult themes and perspectives ensure an absolute timelessness. An all-time critics' favourite.
The Band's first album, Music from Big Pink, seemed to come out of nowhere, with its ramshackle musical blend and songs of rural tragedy. The Band, the group's second album, was a more deliberate and even more accomplished effort, partially because the players had become a more cohesive unit, and partially because guitarist Robbie Robertson had taken over the songwriting, writing or co-writing all 12 songs. Though a Canadian, Robertson focused ...

| | Doors Soft Parade CD (1969) Gold; Remastered
School's Out songs
$14.42 Dismissed by the benighted as the Doors' "pop album," SOFT PARADE is one of the band's most adventurous recordings, utilizing strings and horns without resorting to schlocky over-production and moving far beyond their blues roots. Morrison was fully into his shaman phase by 1969, and his obsession with that image is reflected in the proselytizing air of "Tell All the People," and of course "Shaman's Blues." The album's biggest hit "Touch Me," while easily the group's most radio-friendly offering, is a pop classic that ranks among the great '60s AM radio tunes. "Wild Child" is a brief return to the blues-rock of yore, but the title track is a sophisticated, extended piece that moves through several different moods and textures, full of the elliptical, poetic lyrics that were Morrison's trademark.
The weakest studio album recorded with Jim Morrison in the group, partially because their experiments with brass and strings on about half the tracks weren't entirely successful. More to the point, though, this was their weakest set of material, low lights including filler like "Do It" ...
