Chaddom Blechbourne Experience
$14.09 Detroit comprises a six-composition suite commissioned for the 2009 thirtieth anniversary Detroit International Jazz Festival, played in the studio with musicians from composer/arranger Gerald Wilson's Los Angeles home or New York City area. Curiously, there are no Motor City-based players on the disc, but the themes are based in certain locales from the industrial Midwestern City that has fallen on hard economic times but played a pivotal role in the development of Wilson's highly developed skills as a composer, arranger, and bandleader. A quite spirited and energetic music is heard here from the 90-year-old Wilson, whose charm and wit would rival anyone many decades his junior. It's a swinging affair molded in the traditional big-band visage of Count Basie, Ernie Wilkins, or early Quincy Jones, with Wilson's deft touch ...

Chaddom Blechbourne Experience
$14.29 Brian Bromberg's fourth recording for the Artistry label, and first since they were acquired by the Mack Avenue label, is a fairly predictable program of contemporary jazz, commercial funk, and pop song covers, as well as uptown New York City R&B-type dance tunes that should appeal to the urban crowd. His prominent electric bass guitar always has a retro feel going back to Ralphe Armstrong, Marcus Miller, Stanley Clarke, Larry Graham, and James Jamerson, but retains a current-day feel that is still relevant, remaining skilled and precise as any bassist currently playing the amplified instrument. Many of these tracks include a horn section featuring Randy Brecker, ...

This is top class jazz!"-Peter Kuller, Radio Adelaide-AustraliaLaura Klein and Ted Wolff met at Boston's Berklee College of Music, relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area several years later, and have been playing together ever since. Initially inspired by the Gary Burton/Chick Corea collaborations, they have developed an exciting, lyrical and highly interactive style of their own. Their repertoire ranges from bebop and jazz standards to the contemporary music of Pat Metheny, Wayne Shorter, and Steve Swallow, as well as original compositions. Laura Klein - PianoLaura grew up in New York City, where she studied piano at the Manhattan School of Music as a child. After getting her BA in Music from SUNY Buffalo, she took classes and taught jazz piano at Berklee College of Music. Since the mid-80's Laura has lived in the Bay Area. She has recorded her own compositions with the jazz sextet Triceratops, whose CD got nationwide airplay and enthusiastic reviews. She was the pianist and contributed arrangements on vocalist Jenny Ferris' CD "Day In, Day Out", which featured the music of Johnny Mercer. She has done all sorts of freelance playing, ranging from solo, trio and small jazz groups, on up to the Rudy Salvini Big Band, and John Dankworth and the San Francisco Symphony. Appearances include Yoshi's, Pearl's, San Francisco Jazz Festival, Anna's Jazz Island, KCSM's Jazz on the Hill and the Cotati Jazz Festival. She currently co-leads and composes for the jazz quintet FivePlay. Laura has developed impressive skill as both a performer and composer. Her many recorded compositions span a wide range of styles and instrumentation. Always an inventive accompanist and soloist, she brings energy, creativity, and outstanding technical prowess to every musical project. Laura keeps a busy schedule of concerts, gigs, and recording sessions. Ted Wolff - VibraphoneTed, a vibraphonist of warmth and eloquence, is a Bay Area native. He began his music studies at age 16, and within six months was studying jazz with noted vibist John Rae. Encouraged by Rae, Ted attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he studied and performed with Gary Burton, Dave Samuels, Bill Frisell, Joe Hunt, Mike Stern, and Tiger Okoshi. Within three years Ted was invited to join the faculty at Berklee. During his 8 year stay Ted provided guidance and direction to many students. John Piper, an active and successful ...

Chaddom Blechbourne Experience
$10.15 From the ashes of recession-era America and armed with the intent to reclaim the current musical landscape away from silly haircuts and designer jeans, The Jury Pool is independent rock at its core: four musicians using their precious time and little money to write and produce the music they love, without the help of managers, publicists or labels.Having honed his skills by pounding the skins for 90s punk act Rhythm Collision, drummer Sean Donnelly met guitarist/keyboardist Chad Sands back in 2004 when the two played in the hardcore-mariachi outfit Carne Asada. Though the band was short-lived, the raw skills and visceral energy that drove that unit would later help fuel The Jury Pool's explosive rhythm section.Upon returning home to Los Angeles in 2007 after a yearlong sojourn to China and elsewhere throughout Asia, lead guitarist/vocalist Jordan Helman reconnected with fellow film school graduate Sands, whom he had met through a mutual friend while at college. Now back in the same city, the two were eager to begin fleshing out songs. Sands, originally a Seattle-area native and guitarist of Pacific Northwest teen-darlings Subminute:radio, knew that Donnelly's fast and powerful drumming style would be the perfect ...
