| | Hoobastank Forever CD Hoobastank Discography of CDs
(3 Customer Reviews)
On its fourth studio album, FOR(N)EVER, the unfortunately named heavy-rock act Hoobastank offers up another set of highly accessible guitar-driven tunes. Even more pop-oriented than past releases, this 2009 outing, helmed by longtime producer Howard Benson (Daughtry, P.O.D.), plays up frontman Douglas Robb's emotive vocals, particularly on mid-tempo songs such as "So Close, So Far" and "Tears of Yesterday." What the California-based band lacks in lyrical prowess (see "I Don't Think I Love You" and "Who the Hell Am I?"), it makes up for in catchy hooks, as most readily evinced on the upbeat opener, "My Turn," and the soaring, Foo Fighters-like "You're the One."
Audio Mixer: Chris Lord-Alge.
Hoobastank: Doug Robb (vocals, guitar); Dan Estrin (guitar, keyboards); Chris Hesse (drums, percussion).
Personnel: Howard Benson, Paul Bushnell (keyboards).

Forever album
$7.59 Quite simply, Rocky IV was a movie for the ages. The story of a man who had it all, only to lose so much overnight. Revolving around tension and alienation on the personal, political, spiritual and athletic levels, Sylvester Stallone's portrayal of Rocky Balboa in Rocky IV was without question the most multi-dimensional role of his career. This isn't to shirk the original Rocky, which dealt with questions of class, ethnicity, and overcoming obstacles to victory -- but Rocky IV was more of a movie to be related to on a universal scale.
This indomitable spirit is best exemplified by the album's lead-off track "Burning Heart". The logical sequel to Survivor's epic, instantly recognizable and painfully unforgettable sports anthem "Eye of the Tiger" finds the central protagonist a bit more mature and refined; world-weary from his battles and exponentially more introspective than he was in his burning youth. This torch is then passed to John Cafferty; whom soundtrack fans will no doubt recognize from his ...

| | No-Man Speak CD (1999)
Forever music CDs
$9.89 In an interesting artistic choice, the next full No-Man album to appear after Wild Opera was, in ways, the band's first. Originally surfacing as a self-released cassette in the late '80s, Speak was reissued in the late '90s in slightly different form. Rather than a straight re-release, Bowness re-recorded all his vocals for the songs, though the music, with only two exceptions -- "Curtain Dream" and "Night Sky, Sweet Earth" -- stayed the same as when Wilson and founder member Ben Coleman recorded it. The result is an intriguing and sometimes revelatory revisit to the band's earliest days, with Bowness able to address what he felt were some of his vocal limitations or excesses at the time. Wilson's own musical work at this point is generally much more spare and low key than the full-bodied drama and dance which would soon emerge, but he's ...
