| | Ladyfinger Dusk CD Ladyfinger Discography of CDs
A kind of throwback, Ladyfinger (NE) uphold a niche brand of early-'90s alt-hardcore that came in the wake of bands like Helmet and Quicksand. However, DUSK steers them ever closer toward contemplative melodies and open spaces between clean, pummeling riffs and a pounding rhythm section. On songs like "Little Things" and "Read The Will," Chris Machmuller's vocals suddenly seem more kindred with Bloc Party's Kele Okereke than Page Hamilton. But, for certain, Machmuller and the band maintain their metallic bite, especially on no-nonsense rippers like "Work Party."
Ladyfinger (ne): Chris Machmuller (vocals, guitar); Jamie Massey (guitar); Pat Oakes (drums); Ethan Jones.
Personnel: Novela Johnston (background vocals).
Audio Mixer: Matt Bayles.Alternative Press (p.132) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "The highlight is 'A.D.D.,' which wavers between Jawbox shimmy and churning, grungy breakdowns amid a background of fuzz and noise..." Mojo (Publisher) (p.107) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "There's a new-found tunefulness to Chris Machmuller's emphatic vocals, evinced by tough yet tender anthems..." Pitchfork (Website) - "'Little Things' is all power and momentum and boldface 70s classic rock glory..." Dusk Review

| | John Mayer Battle Studies CD (2009)
Dusk music CDs
$12.95 It's no secret that John Mayer is a 21st Century Fox, wining and dining women all through tabloid headlines, so it's about time he delivered an album that traded upon his loverman persona -- and Battle Studies is that record in spades. Retaining more than a modicum of the slick, soul-blues undertones of Continuum, Mayer fashions a modern groove album, a record that maintains a smooth seductive vibe so thoroughly it spills into a one-man band cover of "Crossroads." Mayer remains somewhat of a disciple of Slowhand, but he shows an unusual interest in the big AOR stylings of Journeyman, along with Stevie Ray Vaughan's In Step, creating a coolly clean blend of synths and Strats, one that's as much about texture as it is about song.something perfectly appropriate for a make-out album like this. Sometimes, ...
| | The Very Best Of Enya CDs (2009) With DVD
Dusk songs
$21.00 Comprised of 18 tracks culled from the singer/composer's first three decades, The Very Best of Enya was pieced together by the artist herself, along with longtime collaborators Nicky and Roma Ryan. Luckily, the trio seems enamored by most of the same songs that the general public is, resulting in one of those rare "greatest-hits" collections that goes deep without depriving the listener of the essentials. With tunes like "Orinoco Flow," "Caribbean Blue," and "Book of Days" in the pot and out of the way, it's easier to appreciate hidden gems like "Cursum Perficio," "Boadicea," "Trains and Winter Rains," and "Anywhere Is." Also notable is the inclusion of "May It Be" and a previously unreleased version of "Aníron ...

| | Frankie O'Rourke The Winds Of Change CD (2004)
Dusk CD music
$10.25 For thirty-two years, Frankie O'Rourke has been writing, singing and performing by himself and with others throughout New England and the Mid-west. The music has been with Frankie since the age of 12 when he first heard the music of Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Arlo Guthrie and Creedence Clearwater Revival.Frankie's first group, The Centennials, was formed with life long friends Frank and Chris Maitland. They performed at school dances, campgrounds, and county fairs. They also auditioned for the Ted Mack Amateur Hour and competed in several Battle of the Bands. At the age of 16, Frankie returned to Chicago to become part of the folk/rock scene. He experienced success as a solo acoustic singer/songwriter. His age quickly earned him the nickname, Kid O'Rourke. Billed as The Kid, Frankie played at many of Chicago's finest folk clubs including The Kingston Mines Cafe, The Earl of Old Town, The Quiet Night, Fifth Peg and at The Old Town School of Music. The Kid hosted an open-mike Hootenanny every Monday at The Kingston Mines Cafe for a year. During that year he met and played with John Prine, Dave Prine and Tyler Wilson, Steve Goodman, Fred Holstein, Art Thieme, Dodi Kallick, Dwayne Story, Mic Scott and others. During the summer of 1973, Frankie returned to the state of Rhode Island. Two years of writing and making contacts led Frankie into forming The Second Wind Band and within six months, they were calling themselves The Other Half. The Other Half signed on with regional promoters, The Banzini Brothers and personal manger, Jack Reich. Together they worked to promote the band as a college concert opening act for NRBQ, Commander Cody, Tom Rush, Aztec Two-Step, Karla Bonoff, Jonathan Edwards, Country Joe and the Fish, Paul Winter Consort, Tom Chapin and Robin Lane The Other Half had many originals receive airplay such as Valentine, America, and Lady of the Night. Their shows got strong reviews and their list of devout fans grew. However, after eight years on the road, Frankie chose to take a respite from performance ...
