Kodiak est un groupe world-urbain au style unique, inspiré en partie du Roots du Rock et du Rap.Les paroles de Kodiak exposent la complexité et la réalité parfois paradoxale de la nature humaine... Un groove qui saura vous faire bouger et réfléchir à la fois!Autour d'un solide noyau, constitué de François Grégoire (chant) Jonathan Gauthier (basse) et Félix Imbeau-Couturier (guitare), gravite une pléiade de talentueux musiciens venant compléter la formation. On y retrouve notamment: Maxime Viens (drum), Valérie Daure (choeurs/voix) et Mélissa Mathieu (choeurs/voix). Pianos,claviers, percussions et cuivres sont aussi au rendez-vous si les conditions le permettent... Énergie garantie!Tout juste sorti du studio d’enregistrement, Kodiak prend la scène d'assault avec de toutes nouvelles chansons issues du deuxième album (sortie prévue au primtemps/été 2008). Toujours sur l'étiquette de disques Indica records ( Les trois Accords, Dobacaracol, Grimskunk, Tryo, Vulgaire Machins et bien d’autres), c'est sous l'aile du réalisateur français Laurent Jaïs (Manu Chao, Mano Negra, Babylone Circus, Amadou & Mariam) que le groupe a travaillé sur ce projet. Beaucoup de belles collaborations se retrouvent sur l’album, dont Martin Lizotte (pianiste pour Dobacaracol et Loco Locass), collaborations qui amènent une touche originale assurée!! Historique du groupe … C’est en 1996 que François Grégoire commence à se démarquer en tant que ¨MC¨ sous le pseudonyme Kodiak. En 2002, Kodiak remporte le concours Hip Hop 4ever (catégorie rap francophone) et s’envole vers la France où il fait bonne figure. De retour au pays, il participe au Festival international de la Chanson de Granby et y repart non seulement avec le premier prix (volet groupe) mais également avec les prix : Musicaction, Coup de cœur de l’École du Showbusiness, Magra Multimédia ainsi que celui du journal La Presse. Les disques Indica s’intéressent au groupe, à leur énergie et à leur originalité offrent au groupe de produire leur premier album « Pour y voir clair », album co-réalisé par Francis Collard (récipiendaire en 2004 du Félix du réalisateur de l’année pour l’album Aquanaute d’Ariane Moffat). Cette première réalisation vaut à Kodiak une nomination à l’ADISQ dans la catégorie album hip hop de l’année. Le premier extrait intitulé « Personne » se glisse rapidement sur les ondes radio du Québec (Énergie, CKOI) et de même que le vidéoclip qui gravit le top 20 de Musique Plus. Sur cette lancée, le second extrait « Hey Hey » rejoint promptement les ondes radio et le top 5 de Musique Plus. If you like history then you have to meet Lightning Red! The man is history himself! He saw many of the big Jazz names when he was a kid, befriended Luther Allison, performed at the Armadillo World Headquarters, played with Omar and The Howlers, Charlie Sexton and WC Clark and watched how Little Stevie Ray struggled with his guitar!Now with the release of Groovemaster, Lightning Red, almost a blues legend himself, is on the road again and ready to show the world that he is still a master at the guitar! Killer licks, ditto grooves and trademark vocals are the master ingredients for his recipe. “Don’t Have to worry” is a fine example of his trademark vocals! The tune gives us his raw sound that is full and expressive! “Do The Revolution” is a great blues rocker that combines the burning hot guitar licks with the Texas blues style. “Lie No More” is all what the blues is about and on “Change is gonna come” (co-written with long time collaborator & band guitarist LZ Love) we hear some nice slide guitar as well as LZ’s voice taking over the vocals in this duet! “The Shake” is wonderfully blending blues and soul in an instrumental groove that could fit on any seventies spy-fi movie! “No matter brings” back all the misery and trouble the blues has seen over the ages in this standard 12 bar blues tune.
