| | Jay-Z The Blueprint 3 CD (2009)
Recession CD music
$15.65 On THE BLUEPRINT 3, still unretired Jay-Z announces "the only rapper to rewrite history without a pen." It's a standard Jigga boast, but the Brooklyn icon has earned the bragging by backing it up, particularly on his gold-label, top-shelf BLUEPRINT series. Ever-ready for battle, Jay-Z takes on autotune, crossover radio, and many other hip-hop concerns with the gloriously jagged rap elan for which he's become known.
When Jay-Z first made a series out of his best album, 2001's The Blueprint, it became a game of high expectations. The first volume saw Jay-Z as vital as he'd ever been, storming back to the hardcore after a few years of commercial success. THE BLUEPRINT 2 took a different tack, with guest shots to compliment his sinuous flows. BLUEPRINT 3 is somewhere between the two, closer to the vitality and energy of the original but not without the crossover bids and guest features of the latter. Kanye West is in the producer's chair for seven tracks, and it's clear he was reaching for the same energy level as the original. "What We Talkin' About" begins the album with a wave of surging, oppressive synth, while Jay-Z enumerates (with an intriguing lack of detail) what he's said and what's been said about him, ending with a nod not to the past but the future (and Barack Obama). There's plenty more lyrical violence to come, but most of the targets are much safer ...

| | Annie Don't Stop CD (2009)
Recession CD music
$12.79 Annie ran into some obstructions on the way to the release of her second album. Don't Stop was supposed to come out on Island well over a year before it was finally issued on Norway's Smalltown Supersound; Island had gone as far as releasing "I Know UR Girlfriend Hates Me" as a single and video, as well as a cover of Stacey Q's "Two of Hearts" as a promotional single, but Annie and Island split, and Don't Stop finally surfaced with a different track list that included neither "Girlfriend" nor "Hearts." As on Anniemal, Don't Stop contains some of the catchiest, most clever dance-pop in circulation, highlighted by the fizzy "I Don't Like Your Band," one of three songs produced by Paul Epworth (Bloc Party, Florence and the Machine). Nearly as ensnaring as "Chewing Gum," Annie's taunting, ...

| | Melissa Jones Red White & Blue Night In Georgia Military Tribute CD (2008)
Recession album
$12.65 Country singer/songwriter Melissa Jones is one of six children born into a musical family. A Northern Utah native, her concert pianist mother and die-hard country music fan father raised their children in a home filled with music which ranged from Mozart to Merle.Melissa, also a wife and a mother, had dreamed of pursuing a career in music since a very young age. Her dream was put in motion eight years ago, when she recorded a Patsy Cline song as a birthday gift for her father.Performing at local nightclubs in Utah, Wyoming and Idaho whenever possible, eventually lead to gigs opening for artists Keith Urban, Terri Clark, Collin Raye, Chris Cagel, The Oak Ridge Boys, Andy Griggs and The Marshall Tucker Band. Finally, with the support of her family and other committed believers, Melissa made the trip to Nashville and recorded a song which found its way to noted producer Nelson Larkin. Melissa’s self-titled debut album, co-produced by Nelson Larkin and Steve Kondor, will be released this year. The album includes Melissa’s singles The Perfect Man and Who Do You Think I Am which have already received national airplay at country radio. While working on Melissa’s album, Steve Kondor heard an unforgettable demo of a heart wrenching song titled, Red, White & Blue Night in Georgia. He contacted the songwriter who put it him in touch with Roxanne Reed, an active duty military spouse, and a founding member of the Marketing to Military Group (MMG). Melissa recorded Red, White & Blue Night in Georgia for her album and her rich voice and genuine emotion make the poignant song unforgettable.MMG, which specializes in introducing products and services to the military market, instantly fell in love with the project. \"We believe this song is the first to reflect on the ‘soul’ of the military spouse and family member,” said Roxanne. “Red, White and Blue Night in Georgia is a testament to the love, pride and devotion we all share for our men and women serving overseas.\" Dedicating a portion of the proceeds to an amazing charity, Hope for the Warriors, brought the project full ...
