| | Billy Jonas Happy Accidents CD Billy Jonas Discography of CDs
Happy Accidents, the latest Billy Jonas recording, is funky folk music for the whole family. Itâs musical medicine for the mind body and spirit of young and old alike. Itâs a splendiferous sonic sojourn into the near and far reaches of fun and fantasy, possibility and purpose, word-play, wonder, heart, and hope. The 18 songs feature 13 originals and 5 adaptations of traditional tunes, all destined to inspire and inform. For instance, âEyes Wide Open,â âYou are Not Alone,â âGet There,â and âOpen Sesameâ each provide a different âmusical mapâ for navigating challenging situations; âTo Be Oneâ and âHollow Bambooâ enliven the soul; âCabezaâ teaches Spanish; âHappy Accidentâ explores four mistakes with wonderful outcomes; and âWhat Kind of Dog are You?!,â âVitamin Alphabet,â âKnock Knock,â and âOne Tutu too Manyâ are just plain FUN question-answer songs that invite the listener to guess-along and sing along. The arrangements include Jonasâ trademark homemade âre-percussionââ drum set, as well as a glorious panoply of found sounds (rubber bands, body percussion, door squeaks, apple cider jugs), exotic kalimbas and marimbas, conventional instruments (guitars, bass, piano, banjo, accordion, tuba) and 2-, 3-, 4-, and 5-part vocal harmonies. The finale of the CD is the Wake Up Suite,â a series of 5 songs that trace a young personâs morning rituals. Jonas and an 8-year-old friend sing duets designed to be easily learned and re-sung, to help families move their morning process along with as much fun as possible. The pieces include "Gotta Get Up," "Two Minute Shower," "Eat Something!" "Brush Your Teeth," and "Totally Ready to Go."Happy Accidents is Jonasâ 7th recording, and his 2nd âfamilyâ CD. Built on a foundation of voice and percussion, with strong, memorable melodies, it has something for everyone, regardless of age. It was recorded over the course of a year, primarily in Asheville, NC, with the help of co-producers Bill Melanson (from The Billys) and Adam Johnson. Happy Accidents features more than 40 local musicians and a host of nationally and internationally renowned co-conspirators, including David Wilcox, Moira Smiley, The Fire Cracker Jazz Band, Secret Agent 23 Skidoo, River Guerguerian, Don Porterfield, Jake Wolf, Ashley Farmer, and Eliot Wadopian. | | George Jones Step Right Up 1970-1979: A Critical Anthology CD (2009) (Import) Australia
Happy Accidents
$18.05 Liner Note Author: John Dowler. This two-disc collection delves into George Jones's 1970s output, shining a spotlight on a period in the country icon's career that may not get as much attention as it should. Hard-line country classicists tend to favor Jones's '60s honky-tonk material, but the maturity and sophistication of his '70s work can't be denied. Some of Jones's most powerful emotional statements came in this period; such tunes as "A Good Year For the Roses" and "The Grand Tour" are the height of pathos, with Jones delivering performances of a Shakespearian caliber. Balancing things out, there are songs that didn't gain as much attention as those, making this an even-handed summary of this important decade in the Ol' Possum's long career. Typically, overviews of George Jones' Epic recordings run all the way into the '80s, sometimes going a little bit too far but always including his career-capping single "He Stopped Loving Her Today." Raven's 2009 compilation Step Right Up: 1970-1979 A Critical Anthology isn't a typical collection. As its title makes plain, this covers the '70s only, so it doesn't have the grace note of ending with "He Stopped Loving Her Today" but it does have something other compilations lack: a heavier dose of his long lost Musicor recordings. The first seven songs or so are all solo hits he had for Musicor, with only "A Good Year for the Roses" being a song that regularly pops up on comps, so this has a value for hardcore collectors looking for tracks that have never shown up on CD, but the primary strength of Step Right Up is its narrow focus. By concentrating on the '70s, it adds some songs that don't show up on most collections of George's Epic years -- "Wine (You've Used Me Long Enough)," "A Drunk Can't Be a Man," "Stand on My Own Two Knees," "I Love You So Much It Hurts," "Ain't Your Memory Got ...
