Extremely limited two disc (CD + NTSC/Region 0 DVD) release from the Irish singer/songwriter. The CD and DVD document the live debut of many of the songs featured on 2007's Theology, recorded in the intimate environs of The Sugar Club, in front of an invited audience of Sinead fans from around the world; and featuring Sinead and a stellar band of Irish musicians specially assembled for the evening. The DVD also includes an extended interview with Sinead. Both discs are presented in a lavish hardback outer case with a foil-blocked Theology logo. The booklet includes photographs from The Sugar Club concert in Dublin on November 8th, 2006, as well as additional portraits of Sinead by Kevin Abosch, Amelia Troubridge and Thomas Canet. Often, supergroups wind up dominated by one particular personality - think Eric Clapton in Derek & the Dominos, Jack White in the Raconteurs -- which makes the egalitarianism of Them Crooked Vultures all the more remarkable. Of course, when it comes down to it, it's a group of three natural-born collaborators: John Paul Jones, the old studio pro who gravitated toward provocative partners after Led Zeppelin's demise, teaming up with R.E.M. as easily as he did with avant-queen Diamanda Galas and nu-folkster Sara Watkins; Dave Grohl, who hopped into an empty drummer's chair whenever the opportunity presented itself; and Josh Homme, who set up a mini-empire based entirely on jam sessions. If Them Crooked Vultures brings to mind Homme's projects more than Grohl's or Jones', it's largely due to his role as lead vocalist and how guitar can push a rhythm section as powerful as this to the side, dominating with its grinding riffs and solos. Returning to the American concert scene after a three-year layoff, the Rolling Stones recorded GET YER YA-YA'S OUT! during a triumphant two-date stand at Madison Square Garden in late November 1969 that found B.B. King and Ike & Tina Turner opening for them. Having amassed an impressive recorded output during their three years away from touring, the Stones peppered their sets with hits, including "Honky Tonk Women," "Jumpin' Jack Flash," and "Street Fighting Man."
