Recorded during a 1979 tour of England, THE DIRTY DOZENS is a unique snapshot of two overlooked Chicago juke-joint aces. Playing something of a musical version of the African-American game of oneupsmanship in the title, Jimmy and Frank trade off on vocal duties and bounce rhythm and lead licks off of one another like so many good natured barbershop insults. The recording quality here isn't crystal clear, but its rough edges are perfectly suited to the gritty blues these two journeymen let loose with.

Another year, another Gary Moore blues-rock album nearly interchangeable with the last. That's no problem for fans or even newcomers, because despite the surface similarities between releases, Moore never seems to be going through the motions for the sake of further bulking up his already substantial catalog. His tough guitar lines remain biting yet classy, and his underappreciated voice is strong and convincing on originals and covers that nail all of the blues-rock bases without sounding rote. While there are no surprises here, Bad for You Baby is far from a disappointment. Moore continues a string of rugged, post-hard rock, power blues that he has carved his niche in since 1990's Still Got the Blues. He applies his throaty vocals and feral guitar to a pair of Muddy Waters tunes to impressive effect. This volume samples the music of three ethnic groups, the mostly Muslim Karo and the Christian/animist Toba, both from North Sumatra, and the Ono Niha (or Hoho) of Nias. Sumatra is the world's fourth largest island, and Nias is a much smaller island 90 miles away. This is rare music from remote places where traditional religious beliefs and rituals are still in active conflict with world religions, especially Christianity.
The Karo and Toba favor instrumental over vocal music and have large "outdoor" and smaller "indoor" ensembles. THE JAZZ IN ME marks the return to original jazz music by producer, keyboardist, and songwriter Eric Copeland.
