Singer-songwriter/artist Eva has played many gigs in the past few years. She toured in The Netherlands, England, the USA (New York City, Texas, California), Germany and Belgium. She played on festivals like The Music In My Head and Binnenach, in venues like Paradiso and Paard van Troje, in theatres, cafes, tents, living rooms, nightclubs, caravans, libraries, pubs, gardens, schools, churches, elevators, on boats, beaches, a graveyard and a farm. She also played on Dutch national radio (radio 3 FM, radio 5) and television. Her debut album, Metamorphosis, was released at the end of 2006 and received many good reviews in the Dutch press. The second cd, The things a girl should do, was released in 2007. On this cd, Eva sings about revolution, trees, cities, kissing girls, being strange, stars, politics, sharks and soldiers, and about the things a girl should do. Or thinks she should do. And things people say she shouldn't do but she still does because she believes in them. A long way, Eva's third album, was released in the last week of November. It's about getting lost and finding your way back, and the long road in between. Long Way album
$10.15 TIME (tHE REVELATOR) was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album.
Displaying a remarkable consistency of vision, Gillian Welch sticks to her guns on her third album, by limiting the sonic palette to the twin acoustic guitars and vocals of herself and partner David Rawlings (and a touch of banjo). With all the hip cred she's built up, especially with her work on the O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU soundtrack, this might have been her big pop move, but Welch plays it admirably straight on TIME (THE REVELATOR). While the melodies and lyrics here do occasionally stretch the boundaries of her willfully anachronistic folk/country style a little, this an even moodier, more intense recording than Welch's previous two. There's a hazy, dreamlike feel to "Revelator," "Dear Someone," and especially the 14-minute, Dylanesque closer "I Dream a Highway," somewhat akin to the plaints of Lucinda Williams's contemporaneous ESSENCE album. Brief respites from all ...

| | Guantanamera/The Sandpipers CD (2000)
Long Way music CDs
$13.59 There is an undeniable charm in the whimsy and subdued kitsch of these affably mellow melodies. This two-fer from Collectors' Choice Music gathers the Sandpipers' 1966 release Guantanamera, as well as their self-titled follow-up from 1967. These were the highest charting long-players that the trio -- consisting of vocalists Jim Brady, Mike Piano, and Richard Shoff -- issued, reaching number 13 and number 53 respectively on the pop album charts. In addition to including the title track from their LP -- the South American folk standard "Guantanamera" -- this disc also highlights some remarkably fresh sounding pop/rock covers, as well as other traditional folk songs from around the globe. While Guantanamera is their debut album, the members of the Sandpipers had previously worked together for several years. Initially, the three met as members of the Mitchell Boys' Choir before seceding to perform as the Four Seasons, and later the Grads. Enter the "A" of A&M records -- Herb Alpert -- who first signed them to his label, and, second, placed their talents into the careful supervision of staff ...
| | Ray Wylie Hubbard Delerium Tremolos CD (2005)
Long Way songs
$13.05 It seems strange that folks like Ray Wylie Hubbard once lived such wild lives but have been able to make solid comebacks later in life. Strange, because Hubbard, on Delirium Tremolos, sounds as good as he ever has. Better yet, the album has a nice, mellow country sound, and Hubbard has discarded, for the time being, his penchant for preachy, comic songs. It doesn't hurt that the album's been produced by Gurf Morlix, nor that he's joined by great harmony singers like Patty Griffin and Eliza Gilkyson. Hubbard's choice of songs are solid too, combining deep but real lyrics ("And the rock and roll gypsies are ridin' tonight/ On the carnival strips they'll stay") with good melodies and hooks. The first three songs, "The Beauty ...

| | Jim Kweskin Maria Muldaur CD (1974)
Long Way CD music
$6.05 Maria Muldaur's self-titled debut record instantly established Muldaur as a major talent and began a career-long melding of American musical styles. Fun, cheerful, and full of the sheer love of playing music, MARIA MULDAUR uses bits of country, pop, blues, rock & roll, jug band, early jazz, and all other manner of roots music to create what could be called one of the first true Americana albums. The record also produced the New York-born vocalist's biggest hit, the sultry Top 10 single, "Midnight at the Oasis," which features the languid, spine-tingling guitar work of the great Amos Garrett. A landmark album in both Muldaur's career and the 1970's music scene, MARIA MULDAUR is that rare combination of ...
