The British duo Swayzak--a morphing of low-brow actor Patrick Swayze's last name--erected a benchmark for itself in the late-1990s minimal techno realm, proving that the Cologne posse didn't have the exclusive rights to cerebral beatsystems. SNOWBOARDING IN ARGENTINA remains to this day a reasonably unsung record, popular in its time, but never given the proper recognition it deserved. Too bad, because these UK boys have a helluva way with a groove.
The opening "Speedboat" should act as the blueprint for anyone interested in carving out the perfect union of electronics and elasticity. With its' spacey synths arching over the horizon, two-lane blacktop bassline and relentless pulse, the sheer hypnotizing aura of the sounds is breathtaking. And it only gets better from there. "Burma Heights" applies the same sonic potions while substituting clicktrack percussion for deep bass motorik. "Blocks" offers orange skyline synths draping melancholic half-tones over chugging bedrock beats. Magnificent stuff--this recording might just give credibility to the term 'intelligent techno'.
Named for the group's dream vacation if their album was successful, Snowboarding in Argentina showcases Swayzak's clean, minimal blend of dub, jazz-house and ambient. The album features tracks from the group's singles as well as new Swayzak pieces. "Bueno," "Fukumachi" and "Low-Res Skyline" are all highlights, featuring the group's knack for making danceable comedown music. [A seven-track reissue appeared in 2009.] ~ Heather Phares

Snowboarding In Argentina album
$11.99 This is a collection of Spanish and American songs by Queen's lead singer Freddie Mercury and opera singer Montserrat Caballe.
With Barcelona, Queen singer Freddie Mercury realized his long-lived dream of performing with an opera singer; in this case, Montserrat Caballe. While it's certainly a treat for any fan of Mercury's to hear this album, it's a difficult record to recommend. Most fans of opera will probably find it far too simplistic ...

$19.79 John Rossall's musical career has spanned four successful decades. The 1960's saw John acting as bandleader and musical director for various artists in the UK and Europe. He performed with the Mike Leander Showband and appeared on recordings as diverse as "It's Not Unusual" by Tom Jones to 'The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore' by the Walker Brothers, as well as many other international hits. He formed The Boston International, a successful recording band in Germany and performed all over Europe with the band during the 1960's and early 1970's. In 1972, he received a phone call from Mike Leander, who had co-written with Gary Glitter a now-legendary song called 'Rock & Roll Part 2', a UK chart hit. Mike asked John to form a band to perform the record: ...enter The Glitter Band. John toured the world with his band during the 1970's, amassing millions of record sales and inciting hysteria wherever they appeared. Harvey Ellison joined The Bostons in 1970 having previously worked with Root and Jenny Jackson and backing U.S. acts like Billy Stewart, The Impressions and Charlie & Inez Fox. In 1974, John Rossall co-wrote (with the late Gerry Shephard) the first solo single for the Glitter Band. The song was 'Angel Face', which went on to be a million-seller worldwide. More ...

Snowboarding In Argentina songs
$16.45 Shane Michael Gooding was born on May 25, 1981 and grew up in Tom's River and Brick, New Jersey. Most people knew Shane through his passion and talent for music. Whether he was on a porch, at a party, a cafe or on the street with strangers, he loved nothing more than to play and sing for himself, and for anyone who would listen. In October of 2004, Shane Gooding left the East Coast for California. He came by train with a guitar in his hand and spent the next two years playing gigs and looking for musicians to play his original songs. He missed the East and his friends terribly, but gained a loyal listenership and devoted friends in Orange County, Long Beach and LA, as he brought his songwriting and vocal skills to a new level of complexity and intensity. In August of 2006, he was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma in his tongue. It eventually spread to his neck, throat and lungs. This cancer is common in the elderly, but rare and unusually aggressive when found in younger people. Even with lightheadedness and severe pain in his tongue and ear canal, he resolutely finished recording his album, Paid Driver for Hire in the summer of 2006. He had major surgery that August, and healed quickly. However, despite his efforts with both alternative and orthodox follow up treatments, the cancer returned and he was hospitalized for chemotherapy in January 2007. After three rounds, the doctors decided that they could do nothing more for him. His physical strength and ability to care for himself was dramatically compromised. However, as an otherwise strong and healthy 25-year-old, he exceeded their expectations and continued to awe people with his beauty, intelligence and love. In April 2007, he came home from the hospital to be with his family and loved ones at his grandmother’s house in Orange County. With striking grace and dignity he granted his attention to a continuous round of visitors from all over, and passing away April 12th, 2007. Had he lived beyond 25, he would have continued to build a prolific and legendary body of work. As it is, this is what he left us. ...
