Old Dogs DVD Two best friends--one unlucky-in-love divorcee (ROBIN WILLIAMS) and the other a fun-loving bachelor (JOHN TRAVOLTA)--have their lives turned upside down when they're unexpectedly charged with the care of six-year-old twins while on the verge of the biggest business deal of their lives. The not-so-kid-savvy bachelors stumble in their efforts to take care of the twins (newcomers ELLA BLEU TRAVOLTA and CONNER RAYBURN), leading to one debacle after another, and perhaps to a new-found understandingof what's really important in life.

$23.89 THE PROPOSAL could have been a strictly script-by-numbers affair, but hilarious performances by Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds improve this romantic comedy. Publishing powerhouse Margaret Tate (Bullock, TWO WEEKS NOTICE) is used to getting her way. She bullies her ambitious assistant, Andrew Paxton (Reynolds, DEFINITELY, MAYBE), earning the ire of all the underlings at Colden Books in New York City. But Margaret, a native Canadian, finds her career in jeopardy when she is denied a visa and learns she will be sent northward. She forces Andrew to become her fiancé, but she’ll have to take a trip home to Alaska with him to prove to U.S. Immigration that their impending union is genuine.
What ensues is a combination of GREEN CARD, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, and GREEN ACRES, with the hell-in-heels boss trying to fake a romance with her assistant as she struggles to survive as a city girl in the country. However, THE PROPOSAL proves to be more than the sum of its parts; Bullock has been one of Julia Roberts’s successors to the America’s-sweetheart crown since she starred in SPEED, but this comedy has her challenging her image with hilarious ease. Reynolds--who could be just window-dressing with his good looks and easy charm--is an excellent foil who is just as adept with sarcasm as he is with a smile. The two stars are ...

$20.55 Rory Culkin (MEAN CREEK) stars in the coming-of-age drama LYMELIFE. Set in 1970s Long Island, the film has a WONDER YEARS feel with its friendly spats between brothers and a major crush on the all-American girl next door. As 15-year-old Scott, Culkin shares the screen with real-life brother Kieran Culkin, whose character, Jimmy, is just returning home on a break from the army. While Scott pines for his best friend, Adrianna (Emma Roberts), his family slowly unravels all around him. Alec Baldwin delivers a predictably solid performance as Scott’s meandering, sometimes heartless dad, but this role feels quite similar to ones we’ve seen him play in the past. Jill Hennessy is well-cast as Scott’s weary mother, as are Cynthia Nixon playing against type as a ditzy housewife, and Timothy Hutton as her Lyme-diseased husband. While their parents sloppily mess their way through the world of marriage and affairs, Scott and Adrianna explore a more genuine kind of romance.
It is the young cast members who really shine, with Rory Culkin driving the film's emotional core. More than five years since starring in IGBY GOES DOWN, Kieran Culkin shows a new maturity here. The real-life brothers display true chemistry (thanks in part to on-screen improvisation), and Roberts is charming as Adrianna. The joint effort of brothers Derick and Steven Martini, LYMELIFE ...
