BRIAN WILBUR GRUNDSTROM’S compositions for film, orchestra, chorus, piano, quintet and other ensembles demonstrate an innovative use of harmony and melody, which although firmly rooted in the tonal tradition is entirely new. Audiences take to his compositions immediately, finding in his compositions traces of Aaron Copland, Kurt Weill and Samuel Barber.Classically trained in piano as well as music theory from Gettysburg College, he has continued orchestration and composition studies with John David Earnest. His awards include Encore from American Composers Forum, Composers Assistance Program from the American Music Center and ASCAPLUS from ASCAP. He has twice been a grant recipient from the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities, an agency supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.A member of ASCAP, Brian attended the prestigious ASCAP/NYU Buddy Baker Film Music Workshop. He has completed music for 15 films. Robert Gaston’s sexy thriller 2 Minutes Later is being released by TLA, and Deconfliction by Edward Tyndall has made it into the Tribeca Film Festival. His studio includes the latest in technologies, including Vienna Symphonic Library, and he is able to render his orchestral compositions at high professional standards.His music has been performed by SONOS Chamber Orchestra, Shippensburg Festival Orchestra, Trinity Chamber Orchestra, George Washington University Orchestra, NIH Philharmonia, Holyoke Civic Symphony, Colla Voce and The New Jersey Gay Men’s Chorus, as well as on the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage. About the Organ:The organ at First Baptist Church of Winchester is a 2-manual, 25-rank pipe organ built and installed by Randall Dyer & Associates of Jefferson City, Tennessee. The instrument has a total of 771 pipes that include a Grand Trumpet, Cymbelstern and Chimes well-suited for Christmas carols and songs. The organ, Opus 87, with ivory and rosewood keys and a black walnut console was installed in February 2006. The installation includes 8' Principal and 4' Choralbass façade pipes of the Great division and the Pedal division. The organ is located at First Baptist Church of Winchester, Virginia. The church has a rich history of the beginnings and the continuing ministry of Baptists in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. The earliest records show that the first Baptists came to the Valley in 1742. The Winchester congregation met in at least five different locations between 1790 and 1928. A UNIQUE CD – all music composed by women "Gardens of the Heart" a CD featuring Classical and Ragtime solo piano music about Nature and composed by women, was researched and performed by pianist, Margot Dilmaghani. It includes Nocturnes, Etudes and lyrical pieces about flowers, gardens, the Earth and sky. Margot researched the Classical compositions at Lincoln Center's Library for the Performing Arts, at university libraries, and thru small independent presses. The Ragtime Music was selected from the 350 women composers in the Mid-West who composed during the Golden Age of Rag in the United States from 1890's-1920's. The CD insert includes biographical information about each composer and something about the music as well. Margot graduated from Northwestern University's School of Music with a performance degree in harp. She earned a Master's in Education (Guidance Counseling Major) from Loyola University of Chicago. Further study includes The Guild for Spiritual Guidance, a Certificate for introductory courses in “Music for Healing” from the New School in NYC and piano study with Maria Cisyk in NYC (Juilliard, BMu, Mmu; Yale MMu, PhD.)Margot’s recordings can be heard on National Public Radio stations across the country.
